Thought we were prepared for 1st daughter's birth in the hospital because we had a 4-page "birth plan." Ha! Having taken the Bradley Method course, I do feel like we were lead to believe a natural birth would be possible in the hospital, and this so clearly is not the case given the level of interventions we received and that were pushed on us from... See More right out of the gate.

Not a satisfactory experience on so many levels, which is why we went to Kate for daughter #2. Could not have asked for a more lovely, empowering home birth. Definitely therapy for getting over the hospital birth.

I am glad I have had the opportunity to experience both a disappointing, disheartening hospital birth AND an empowering, lovely hospital birth! It's very true that when you buy the hospital ticket, you are taking the hospital ride; but that doesn't mean that you can't have the birth you want! Doulas or other positive support are indispensable for a... See More natural hospital birth. Sometimes, asking for a different nurse can make all the difference! When we lose sight of the fact that our healthcare is an industry and therefore consumer driven, we lose our power to make the best decisions we can and change the way the industry operates. Just my opinion :)
