At Bridgeway, we use the ACTS (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) model. It has helped me praise Jesus more instead of always being thankful. I personally need prayer if I'm going to grow closer to God. E.M. Bounds says we should pray just for that reason, not to get things from God. We pray so that we can know Him.

I have spent a lot of the last almost two years focusing a lot more on praying for others than I have in a long time. It is amazing to see what God does when we pray for others. One, much of what I pray for other I can include myself in. Examples may be being more patient, drawing closer to God, resisting temptation. As I listen to others I learn ... Read Morewhat they need in life/ what I can pray for them about. Rarely it is stuff, usually it is an area of growth or peace or trust in certain situations in life. God can work things out for other much better than I ever could. Of course I am available and listening to hear if God wants to use me to help, but one of the things it does is keep me sensative to what God wants me to do and sensative to see Him working. I think we often get discouraged or distracted in life because we don't see all that God is doing. Prayer is critical to our lives. Thanks for opening up this topic.

There are some great promises in the Bible about how God answers prayers. I believe He answers prayers- and I've experienced them. But, there are times when I haven't seen the desired result from my prayers. I realize God may want to mature me, but it often makes me wonder if there is something wrong with me, or I begin to ask the question," is God... Another issue is the pain that people walk through in this life. I believe that people who live purely before God receive protection from some suffering, but at times, suffering hits us all in random ways. Makes me ask the "why?" question. It can be cause for doubt if I'm honest.

Chris, I believe God is right alongside her grave mourning and weeping too. The Bible says God desires everyone to come into a relationship with Him. He doesn't want anyone to perish! The sad part is: We live in a perishable world...a world full of sin and pain. But God's Will - His plan for our lives still remains. It may even include suffering ... Read Morefor us too at some point believe it or not. The question about the 8 year old girl in Africa is a fine one, but the better question is: What are you and I doing to pursue God's Will for our lives today? How could WE have an impact on that 8 year old girl's life and really make a difference instead of just talking about it theoretically? You know what I mean? Thanks for your involvement on this project.

yeah, wow. I wanted to watch this earlier, but I didn't have the time. There a lot of scars still there, but God has done an amazing work of healing in me. For ... Just thought of a comment to make. I think sometimes when we get hurt or angered, our tendency (at least mine) is to even the score. I think we are naturally wired to defend ourselves. But, I think that in the Bible, God directs us to surrender that duty of "evening the score" to God. He says, "vengeance is mine, I will repay." At the same time, we... Read More surrender judgment to God, hopefully we'll be able to get to a place of actually praying for blessings over the person that has hurt us. It is amazing how God can work in our hearts and lives through something that touches us in deep ways (much like an occasional bout with anger).
