Kansas Cyclist Check out the new Facebook page for the Kansas Singletrack Society for mountain biking news, trails info, and rides in the Wichita area.

KSS is a group of mountain bike enthusiasts in the Southern Kansas/Wichita area. We love to ride bikes, race bikes and build new trails. We ride mountain and road bikes and simply love all facets of outdoor living. Among us are cyclists, mountain bikers, runners, swimmers, adventure racers, geocachers and so much more.... The common thread is that we sincerely enjoy life on the trail. Since KSS has been organized, members have spent hundreds of hours maintaining and building mountain bike trails. We have added several miles of singletrack at Camp Horizon and created a new mountain bike trail near Wichita called Miller's Meadows. We have also participated in IMBA trail design workshops and applied newly acquired techniques on our local trails. Adding additional trails in the Wichita area is a top priority for KSS. Currently, we have a project in the works at Fall River, 1 hour east of Wichita. We have secured a grant for $21k from the Kansas Trails Council. Now what we really need are the hours of manpower to qualify for reimbursement and to make this trail a success.Read More

A lot of roadies think they can just hop in a ‘cross race without any knowledge of the sport. I thought this once. Let me tell you, there’s a lot you need to know to do well at ‘cross. You can’t read without knowing your ABC’s, and you shouldn’t ‘cross without knowing your ‘cross ABC’s, so study up!

83rd Street from Cedar Creek to almost Kill Creek is not suitable for bicycle travel. Even in a car you have to deal with those going that speed and the truck traffic. The hills interfere with sight distances, especially when cresting a hill to find something in the road going 5mph.

who's going 5 mph? Must be the tractors.

As of two weeks ago they had ground down the pavement and it was ready for new surfacing...don't know if they have completed it but it was ugly to ride in a car let alone a bike!
