I recall the old library (I guess it is Admissions now), and the small windows overlooking the high-vaulted reading room, somebody quietly reading alone, late at night, down below...until my voice filtered in, faint and plaintive as if drifting in from the moors, wailing "Suuuuutcliiiif...Suuuuutcliiiif...!"

My daughter attended her lecture and said the discussion afterwards was incredible. She said hook's ease with answering questions -- listening, interpreting, pulling in other people's thoughts and expanding on the answers -- was inspirational. Her impression was that hook verbally created a paper in front of the audience.

Susan I see that Matriculation is still set to take place in the basement of the Library. How unfortunate that this process no longer takes place in the Ransom Room, where it belongs. An obligation and dedication made by freshmen as a commitment to Kenyon, signing the Matriculation book deserves to return to the Ransom Room, hosted by the President of the College.
