Kidport Just finished a section on "Life in the Continental Army" during the American Revolution. Hard to image how farmers and shopkeepers were transformed from scared new recruits into a fighting force capable of defeating the British Army. The Continental Army was created by a resolution of the Continental Congress on June 14, 1775. It was intended to coordinate the war effort of the thirteen colonies against Britain. General George Washington was Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army.

Kidport One last thought on war, political and religious conflict. Why are there still countries, cultures, organizations and people in the world that refuse to peacefully coexist with others? Hopefully children of today, through proper education, will become tomorrow's open minded adults finding a peaceful resolution to all forms of conflict.
Kidport More curious thoughts about European history. Wondering why slavery was peacefully abolished in Europe in the early 1800s, but required a bloody civil war to end it in the United States. How is our culture different from other countries that peacefully sought the end of oppression? Is it greed that drives people to oppress others for their benefit?

Kidport Working on the American Revolution Boston Massacre section. Did you know that in order to ensure a fair trial, John Adams defended the soldiers. He convinced the jury that the soldiers fired in self defense and they were released from prison. John Adams would later become Vice President and then President of the newly formed United States of America.

Kidport Working on the American landmarks section. Just finished the page on war memorials. The monument of five Marines and one Navy corpsman raising the flag a Iwo Jima reminded me that three of these men later died in battle. Even great moments can bring sadness. Hopefully, some day we will live in a world without war.
