Kidport Finally finished updating the American Revolution section. I added YouTube Videos to all the segments. Check it out.

www.kidport.com
The American Revolution, or Revolutionary War, led to the formation of the United States of America. Despite the common phrase, "the shot heard around the world," the revolution didn't just start in one night. ...

Kidport Just finished a section on "Life in the Continental Army" during the American Revolution. Hard to image how farmers and shopkeepers were transformed from scared new recruits into a fighting force capable of defeating the British Army. Check out these video clips to learn what it was like to be a soldier during the Revolutionary War.

www.kidport.com
The Continental Army was created by a resolution of the Continental Congress on June 14, 1775. It was intended to coordinate the war effort of the thirteen colonies against Britain. General George Washington was Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army.

Kidport Found a great quote. " You can achieve anything you want in life if you have the courage to dream it, the intelligence to make a realistic plan, and the will to see that plan through to the end." Sidney A. Friedman.

Kidport One last thought on war, political and religious conflict. Why are there still countries, cultures, organizations and people in the world that refuse to peacefully coexist with others? Hopefully children of today, through proper education, will become tomorrow's open minded adults finding a peaceful resolution to all forms of conflict.

Kidport More curious thoughts about European history. Wondering why slavery was peacefully abolished in Europe in the early 1800s, but required a bloody civil war to end it in the United States. How is our culture different from other countries that peacefully sought the end of oppression? Is it greed that drives people to oppress others for their benefit?

Kidport Exploring European history today. Why are race and religion always used as a justification for superiority and a reason for war? Why does the study of European history largely focus on wars and religious conflict? Is everything else too boring to talk about, or is it that war and conflict sell more books?

Kidport I've just connected the Kidport Facebook and Twitter accounts. This is an experiment. I'm not sure what will happen when a Facebook post is more than 140 characters allowed by Twitter. I will soon find out after I post this.

Kidport Updating the Kidport Civil War section. You may know that the Civil War split families and friends. Brothers fought brothers on the battlefield. But, did you know that President Lincoln's wife had three brothers that died fighting for the South.

www.kidport.com
The Civil War split the nation. It was the most bitter conflict within the United States. The source of the conflict between the North and the South resulted from fundamentally different ways of life. Economy in the South was heavily based on agriculture and growing cotton. ...

This is very true, many families were split by the Civil War. While researching my family history, I found in a book listing Civil War dead two distant relatives--one listed for the North and one for the South.

Kidport Working on the American Revolution Boston Massacre section. Did you know that in order to ensure a fair trial, John Adams defended the soldiers. He convinced the jury that the soldiers fired in self defense and they were released from prison. John Adams would later become Vice President and then President of the newly formed United States of America.

www.kidport.com
The American Revolution, also known as the revolutionary war, was one of the most significant events in American history. Without it, the United States of America may not have come into existence. Read on and learn why it happened, and learn about key events of the revolution. ...

Kidport Working on the American landmarks section. Just finished the page on war memorials. The monument of five Marines and one Navy corpsman raising the flag a Iwo Jima reminded me that three of these men later died in battle. Even great moments can bring sadness. Hopefully, some day we will live in a world without war.

www.kidport.com
Washington, D.C. is home to many of the nations war memorials such as the Korean War Memorial, the Iwo Jima Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. If you ever have the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C., make sure you see these monuments. They are even more impressive in real life.

Kidport Henry Ford once said, "Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you are right." I guess it is the thoughts we have chosen that have brought us to where we are today.
