LONDON For more than two years now, the U.S. government has barred me from entering the United States to pursue an academic career. The reasons have changed over time, and have evolved from defamatory to absurd, but the effect has remained the same: I've been kept out.

Former Maryland governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. (R) said that Tuesday's Republican victories in Virginia and New Jersey would figure prominently in his thinking about a possible comeback next year, and Democrats downplayed the meaning of the results for Maryland, where their party is more dominant.

I think you should go back to letting it last for a whole hour, and having it at on a specific day and at a specific time each day. Kojo, I think you missed the point of the caller who suggested that a person who is not married be allowed to designate one other adult as having the privileges normally offered only to spouses or in some cases immediate families. For example, let say I am single parent. I may want to enter into a legal arrangement with my nanny so that that ... Read Moreperson can covered by insurance. Or suppose I am widow. I may wish to enter into a legal arrangement with my best friend--not a marriage -- so that this person can have the rights of visiting me the hospital intensive care unit. Any single person may want to do this apart from any obligations normally associated with marriage. This type of remedy focuses on the legal aspects of marriage and civil unions.

Kojo - please... what lessons are there to learn? How about advocating for our elected leaders to move forward and fix the country vice playing the partisan politics game. How about a health care discussion or talk about the hot lanes on the interstate?

Liberals; learn that you do not have to accept whatever candidate the Democratic bosses give you, you do not have to vote for him/her.
You can choose the person you want to vote for, even if he/she is not running as a Democrat, as long as that person represents what you really believe to be the best for your country.

You are first and foremost an American and you want what is best for your country, and sometimes that means not voting democrat or encouraging your politicians to run as independents and supporting them.

I don't think the election says anything to the parties besides this -- swing states still have election fatigue from 2008, and a former Goldman Sachs exec couldn't hold onto office in a climate where GS & Wall St. are walking Congress like a dog.
