KPCC Should members of Congress be the judges of other members' ethical lapses? Kitty Felde's series on ethics continues today.

Source: www.scpr.org
If you’re a member of Congress who played fast and loose with the ethical rules, you’ll be investigated and judged by... other members of Congress. It sounds suspicious. Democratic Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren of San Jose shrugs her shoulders. Lofgren chairs the House Committee on Standards of Official...

Keta - Actually, I wasn't commenting on KF's right or left leanings as I was trying to say that she sounds out of her element in the big league of Washington reporting. To me, her stories don't carry the weight of someone like Cokey Roberts who grew up in the world of capitol politics.

KPCC From Sharon McNary in the KPCC newsroom -- If you're a woman over 40, how will you change your behavior in response to new guidelines recommending fewer mammograms? Patt Morrison will be talking about this at 2:40 today, and you can listen on air at 89.3 FM or online at kpcc.org

Source: www.scpr.org
New medical guidelines recommend women over 50 get mammogram screening for breast cancer every two years, reducing the annual screening that had been recommended for women over 40. The new guidelines are billed as reducing the risk of many screenings and the anxiety from false positive results. ...

My GP had given me a referral for a baseline mammogram when I was 35. I had no real risk factors so I never went. I was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years later and had to have a mastectomy at 38. Pushing mammograms out to 50 sounds ludicrous to me.

The new guidelines from the government regarding breast cancer screening are atrocious!! No more mammograms from 40-49 and then only every other year. No breast self-exams and doctors are advised to abstain from educating their patients on how to do BSE's. This is ridiculous. How many wives, daughters, sisters, mot...hers, bff's are we going to lose? How can the average person get involved to make difference and how can KPCC help us to do so?

KPCC Hello from Sharon McNary in the KPCC newsroom. From Caltech: A light earthquake occurred at 1:21 p.m. today. The magnitude 4.6 event occurred 16 miles south-souteast of Trona, CA. We had a couple of small-ish earthquakes over the weekend, too, in Fontana and Beaumont. Which raises the question:

Source: www.scpr.org
What were you doing during today's earthquake? Did you see any damage? How prepared is your family for a much bigger earthquake?

KPCC Hello from Sharon McNary in the KPCC newsroom. We're looking for your dental care stories. Americans spend more than $91 billion on dental care, with about 44 cents of every dollar spent coming from our own pockets. Click below. It's confidential.

Help KPCC sink its teeth into the topic of dental health care. Do you have dental insurance but find yourself still paying out-of-pocket? Are you addicted to teeth-whitening strips but refuse to floss? What about some of those cutting-edge new dental care techniques?

I would like to clarify my earlier comment. Regular dental care is important and if someone is on state medical assistance then dentistry should be included. The rest of us will have to continue to pay for it ourselves.

Hi B -- Thanks for the news tip. How specifically, has the state budget reduced dental care for you and other seniors? One of the questions we're asking when you click the link above is about generational dental care. For example, if you have Medicare, do you have to buy separate dental coverage, and what does that cost? Anybody who would like to share their experiences is welcome to click the link and be part of our network of news sources for public radio. Thanks!

The form is picky. You have to fill in the photo button even if you didn't submit a photo. This might confuse some contributors since there are only two choices to the photo question (yes, no). Neither answer applies of you're not submitting one. Maybe a 3rd choice would be appropriate, like N/A ?

L.A. is relatively safe to walk. Look before you cross the street and be aware of your surroundings. No big city is perfect. We can't expect to be able to walk in the entire city but there are so many neighborhoods here were we can walk !! Every city has safe and unsafe areas we need to be aware of that.
