Despite many expressions of support and much advocacy for a single-payer health plan, it hasn't captivated the country in the lengthy health care debate nor moved a bill through Congress. The onus is on single-payer supporters to “take a step back," an AFL staffer argued.

Friends who will do that to you are not your friends. Nobody better out there? Hell, nobody worse. You want friends in Washington, build your own party.

Every time a poll is taken single payer comes out way ahead until they start with the "would you still say that if you knew this?..." hot button questions. Personal witness is not a political strategy, but it's all I can do.

The San-Diego Union-Tribune is refusing to agree not to outsource jobs. Tell Macy’s to regain the spirit of the season and STOP advertising in the San Diego Union-Tribune,Call1-212-494-5759 This is not intended to nor does it ask employees to cease work or delivery, and is in no way calling for a boycott of Macy’s.

Attendees at an NUHW forum in Los Angeles had to pass a demonstration of a few hundred SEIU staffers and members who had arrived on buses. The SEIUers chanted, beat on drums, and threw eggs and water bottles in an unsuccessful effort to intimidate people from attending.

I can't tell you how much this saddens me.
We're luckier in Seattle, where AFL-CIO and SEIU members are usually able to work together. Sure there are strong feelings/opinions at times, but I haven't seen anything like this here.

Labor needs a wake the hell up call...democract is front and center. Our society is plagued with a loss of moral compass.
This maybe a little off topic but relevant to the big picture.

The NEED for a PEACEFUL Political Paradigm Shift is NOW. Call it an awakening, a political revolution, a return to our founding principles of big us vs. limited government. People are realizing the two party political system has kept us as captive pets for the elites exploitation and entertainment. With just a few polarizing issues they have kept the populace at odds, busy fighting amongst ourselves while the oligarchs rob the citizens blind through inflation and government induced debt. Its time to unit for a the common good of all on fundamental principles of liberty and freedom based on sound money supply. A money system backed by gold, not created through debt and counterfeiting, but through the production of goods and services.
The answer is Ron Paul and the freedom movement to restore sound money and the Constitution. We can all sit around and demand this and that watch our country go to the new world order. Of course many like this, thinking the socialist system will save them. It will not. You will be serfs to the elite. We are not living in a free market nor capitalist state, we are living in a fascist under a fascist government.

I still feel strongly for the need for union's but we need to change gears and strategy ASAP.
I know I will lose friends over my new found passion for freedom and liberty under the Constitution. It's still a relevant document to me.

Labor Notes Troublemakers Blog: antidote to the strike-bashing http://www.labornotes.org/blogs/2009/11/irresponsible-striking

Source: www.labornotes.org
We’ve known for a while now that the economic crisis has dampened the willingness of workers to head out on strike. That’s partly due to the business class and the corporate press, who take every opportunity to poison the atmosphere against rank and filers who dare to resist corporate demands.

Also, apparantly absent from our dialogue are plans to organize homeless, unemployed, poor and otherwise displaced persons. I am not sure that we realize how large a contraction of organzied labor we might actually be facing.

Solidarity and a consicious program to organize and support the people under the most pressure to take substandard work and allow standards to drop is key to preserving years of gains (mimimizing declines at least.)
