On the eve of the 150th anniversary of the first publication of “The Origin of Species,” Tim Berra, professor emeritus of evolution, ecology and organism biology at Ohio State University, spoke about the life of Charles Darwin.

That's the goal of a $269,500 initiative the federal government launched this summer for Lake Erie's western basin, the warmest and shallowest part of the Great Lakes.

University of Toledo Lake Erie Center Our public lecture series returns this Thursday with Dr. Gary Winston, Director of the National Center for Water Quality Research at Heidelberg University, speaking about "Oxygen toxicity in aquatic invertebrates." Our Bay has many natural resources, and we want you to share your vision with us! Take your best snapshots of your favorite nature topic within Maumee Bay, including wildlife, plants, landscape…s, or people interacting with nature, then send them in and compete.
To participate, all entries must be submitted before Friday, October 30th, 2009. Color or Black & White photographs accepted. Entries will be divided and judged by age groups in the following classes: children under 12, teens 13-17, and adults. Entries limited to five (5) per household.
