I recently saw something on the drug scene in Canada and the Hells Angels, who seem to be controlling the market there. Nobody talks about that though.

Los Angeles Times Spaceport gets mixed reception in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico

The $225-million project brings the promise and the threat of change to the quiet New Mexico town. Some say the problem is local politics, not the idea of hosting space travelers. Photo: A 2-mile runway is under construction at Spaceport America.

Meh. Better than the Federal Government.

I trust what comes out of Johnson Space Center et. al. about as far as I can throw it. Maybe the private sector will actually produce reliable space technology for once.

A blue moon -- the second full moon in a month – isn’t that uncommon, occurring on average every 2 1/2 years. But a blue moon on Dec. 31 last happened 19 years ago.

First there is not a humane way to kill an animal because it is causing them pain regardless of how you kill it, the animal still suffers. An animal can be killed for humane reasons but never in a humane way. These animals are not being killed for fun they are being killed for food which is legal. So it is still with in the laws of this our country.

Animals are being abused in this country every day and not necessarily for food. So please learn the difference between animal abuse and animal slaughter. If a slaughter house was illegal then you would be right about there being rights to protect animals. But it so happens that it is legal to slaughter an animal for food.

It is not a cultural thing to kill animals for food it is a human thing to kill animals for food. The story in the Times features a slaughter house that just happens to cater to specific ethnic groups, it has nothing to do with the culture because like I said animal consumption is a human practice not limited to any ethnicity. ... See More

My problem with your statement Jeanne, was that you said "go back" or "go to another country" that, you have accept is inflammatory. And you might want to read what I posted again because I never said that people can do what ever they want.

We have laws yes and that is why this business is being zoned out of its current location, the article never said it was abusing animals. The neighbors have a problem with the smell of the building, not what goes on in it. You might want to read that again too.

happy new year !

You're going to tell me to learn the difference between animal abuse and animal slaughter? That's straight up laughable! I can tell by the things you say that you aren't really up to speed on factory farm abuses and the current actions to rectify some of the many problems. Slaughterhouses are not illiegal - you are correct about that. But what you may not realize is that slaughterhouses are REGULARLY cited for inhumane practices that do not meet the FDA standard for the treatment of factory animals. THAT was my point.

You can have all the problem you want - with me saying "go back" but I don't like people hiding behind "their culture" to justify animal abuse. It's just like if someone from New York City complained they couldn't do everything they wanted in Montana - I'm sure the people in Montana would tell them to "go back" to New York. It's not about culture! No one cares when it's within our own county but for some reason - everyone feels the need to walk on egg shells if someone is from another country. As I said - yet I don't think you are hearing - I don't care about ethnicity at all. But what is acceptable behavior one place is just not appropriate everywhere else.

You obvously have your own agenda Maria. You didn't get anything I was saying at all and are focusing a lot of what must be your own personal issues of ethnicity. Ethnicity is not my arguement and I never meant to suggest that it was. ... See More

Oh - and I feel compelled to add - just to be clear - there ARE humane ways to kill animals. Educate yourself. Or not. That's the great thing about this country - it's YOUR choice.

And I wish you an enlightened New Year!

Los Angeles Times For five years, as the world convulsed with war, the unassuming Soviet couple rubbed elbows with the likes of Walt Disney and Orson Welles. Their handlers called them Zefir and Elza, and from Los Angeles they went on to roam undercover through dozens of countries, from Israel to Czechoslovakia, Soviet spies all the way.
