Charles I just want to pass along how much I am anticipating the X100e in January. I use an Acer netbook as a companion to my R61i and it is just lacking a little and the X100e has what I am looking for at the ultra-light notebook segment. It is the first Thinkpad with an AMD processor (and colors), but the CPU is a bit more powerful than the Atom, I like the 4GB of RAM and 320GB HD all for $500.

I just got an e-mail yesterday telling me that the Y550 I ordered (model: 4186CTO) isn't installed with Windows 7 64bit, instead they installed Vista 64bit. Now I'm a college studen and had it shipped home, so it's just there waiting for me to open when I head home for break next week.

My question is, just how good is t...he recovery disc they're going to send me, that is supposed to re-image the entire system with the Windows 7 Enhanced Experience, as well as properly formatting the One-Key Recovery? There is an option for me to just send it back and have them do it, but I can't be without my laptop for that long, I need it for my classes. So I was hoping someone here could tell me if it wipes the whole HDD clean, and images it correctly, or am I going to run into some difficulties?Read More

The recovery disk that they send you should:
1. wipe the hard drive
2. create the appopriate partitions
3. lay dow the correct BCD that will allow you to use the one key recovery(and custom MBR)
4.then lay down the recovery partition and depending upon the solution they use... Read More
a. boot to the recovery partition and apply the OS image.
b. apply the recovery image to the OS partition and reboot to it.
5. go through some 'churn' that will install all the correct drivers and the OEM specific applications

I hope that this helps

Kurt Carl Wilner Past the easiest migrations of apps & bookmarks into Win7 (from XP Pro SP3); now into the gnarly bits. E.g., Win7 can't find the drivers to my "network printers" nor even installed "legacy apps' print to PDF" drivers. Anyone 'out there' know what I'm wrestling with?

your printer manufacturer is responsible for providing drivers that allow for advanced user scenarios. I would contact them to see if they have a Windows 7 driver available. for your second concern, Windows 7 does not ship with print to PDF functionallity. The inbox portable document format is XPS.

While some models may ship with a longer base warranty, most Lenovo laptops are provided with a 1 year warranty which can be upgraded to include additional time, onsite service, and optional accidental damage coverage.

Nathan We have been buying a lot of the T500's. I just got a new one, 8GB Ram, Win7 Pro 64 Bit, and all the bells and whistles. I am very impressed with the rugged style of the Thinkpads. My rep has given us great support thus far as well.
