Lewis & Clark College’s Wind Symphony, a 52-member concert band, presents a concert of masterworks for winds and percussion, showcasing several outstanding individuals, sections, and a small ensemble.
The theme of the evening, “To the Fore,” quaintly appears as an instruction i...n much of the music of Percy Grainger, whose “Lincolnshire Posy” will be the featured work of the evening. Virtually everyone in the ensemble comes “to the fore” in some portion of this complex composition, considered to be a cornerstone of the wind band repertoire.
Featured soloists include seniors Emily Nelson, trumpet, and Nathan Laws, French horn. The program also includes a woodwind quintet comprised of several principal players from the ensemble, performing the first movement of Claude Paul Taffenel’s delightful “Woodwind Quintet in G minor.”
