In 1909 the Illinois state legislature approved $250,000 to construct a new building on a stand of trees northwest of Foellinger Auditorium (then just “Auditorium”), thus creating desperately needed study space.

It took all summer to move everyone out, but Lincoln Hall is empty for the first time in nearly a century.

Celebrate the beginning of the long-awaited renovation of Lincoln Hall as U of I thanks the people of Illinois for their support of this historic project. Join us for a few words of appreciation and a final walk-through of the first floor before the building closes to the public.
Bring a Lincoln penny, too! All pennies ...collected at the kick-off will be incorporated into the restored structure. (Location to be revealed later.)

Optional events include a “good-bye” visit to Lincoln Hall before it closes for restoration and a special exhibit of the Morrill Act of 1862 signed by Abraham Lincoln.
