Months after the building closed, the class bells still ring in Lincoln Hall and students still wander in looking for instructors—workers turn back three or four of them a day—but the renovation ...

I use to manage the archaeological collections that were stored in the basement of Lincoln Hall. We would have to walk down the hallway with our heads lowered so we wouldn't hit them on the pipes, we would talk with the building maintenance guy who had his office there, we had to move collections out of a small room that was going to be used as ... See Moresomeone's office. I think that was an old dressing room...I also remember taking an archaeology mapping class in the basement as an undergraduate in what was Professor Chuck Bareis's lab. I also remember where ever you walked, the halls or the stairs, were worn with the paths of students walking over the years.

The late Dr. Paul H. Jacobs, department of English, was my advisor during my time at the U of I (1980-1984). His office was in Lincoln Hall. He enrolled me in my classes- this was before the PC. He was my Linguistics instructor, and he counseled me during a bleak time, when I doubted my ablility to be a teacher. Today, I wake up each day to teach and am so grateful for Dr. Jacob's advice and guidance. His influence lives on.
