Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester

Sue Orman

Sue Orman Tigger came home with me almost 2 years ago. I think he's part dog. He follows me around when I'm trying to figure out what is causing a strange noise in the house and he likes to cuddle all the time. I'm so glad I adopted him. : )

Christine

Christine I would just like to know if you realize you are affiliated with a Pet Store who provides no vet care for the sick animals they sell? I would also like to know what your opinion is on this. For example a Chinchilla with an upper resperatory infection, do you think that the store is obligated to provide adequate vet c...are or to just take it off the floor and put vicks on the poor thing to prolong the inevitable which was of course death.

Caryn Dalton Smith

Caryn Dalton Smith Just wanted to say that Otis has made himself very much part of our family. We adopted him at the beginning of September at just about 3 months old. This photo was taken at the end of October. He LOVES our dog Mojo, this is his favorite spot in the house-curled up with the old guy.

Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester What sorts of things have you done to make your house more cat-friendly and fun for your kitties (e.g., putting climbing shelves on the walls)?

Erica, my cat did the same thing! The cat has the whole run of the house, but when we first brought home the dog we put up various gates so she could be left in piece. Now it's the dog who has to watch out!

Local rescue groups say they aren't seeing the jump in animal surrenders experienced in parts of the nation hit harder by job losses and home foreclosures, but the financial strain is putting the squeeze on adoptions and the donations that help support their efforts. Photo gallery

This is such a sad thing, I think people are too quick to get rid of an animal because of their temperment. I know some shelters offer specials every month for people wanting to abopt, such as offering so much off an animal that has been at the shelter a long time, or a certain color, etc. Every little publicity helps to get the pets adopted. I would take them all if I had the money and room. :(

I'm moving from Rochester to Long Island and I would NEVER move into an apartment without them. I recently had a renter ask me why I couldn't just leave them and I laughed in her face. I have adopted a rabbit, an iguana and when I was younger (and didn't know to adopt) a fish and a snake. I plan on finding a home where I have the option of getting... See More a cat or a dog just so I can adopt in the next couple of months. People who leave their animals behind make me sick. I get the rare occasion you are kicked out and need a place asap with a whole family, but there are too many people who still buy a new Wii, and get rid of their dog. :(
