As you may remember, Longplayer is a project by Jem Finer: a composition designed to last 1,000 years. Along with a live performance of portions of the composition last year, a Long Conversation was held that lasted for 12 hours:

BTW - there's an installation of Longplayer playing in the Long Now Museum & Store. It's a very serene and meditative space and many visitors greatly enjoy it. Some, however, are inevitably disappointed to find we don't sell it on CD.

The Long Now Foundation Journalist Weisman traveled the world to investigate what happens when humans stop occupying an area. How long do our artifacts last? How does nature recover? What does that say about the human impact on the world? What would be the actual sequence of events if all of humanity suddenly disappeared?

The exercise provides... inspiration and techniques for humans to occupy Earth more lightly and therefore more durably.

The Seminars About Long-term Thinking were started in 02003 to build a coherent, compelling body of ideas about long-term thinking, to help nudge civilization toward Long Now's goal of making long-term thinking automatic and common instead of difficult and rare.

Seminar hosted by Stewart Brand.
