...ot the breed! Dog bites and attacks are a serious problem, no one is debating that. But breed bans are not the answer. No breed of dog is inherently more dangerous than another; responsible dog owners can and do make the difference. In fact, there is no expert evidence anywhere that claims these banned breeds are inherently more dangerous than any other breed. Even if you have never allowed a "pit bull"-type dog into your heart, this issue affects every dog owner. What do the Experts say? When asked about the repeal of breed specific legislation, Dalton McGuinty said "it would not be considered," and went on to say, "We got the best advice we could and put in place legislation we think upholds public safety." How can this be true when McGuinty didn't listen to the experts? In fact, 43 of the 44 experts were totally against the ban. Proof of this can be found in page 2 of "Bill 132; A Concise Summary of The Public Hearings." http://www.dogwatch.net/bill132.pdf Dalton's statement was deliberate in its deception and not a single reporter asked if he had taken the experts’ advice. Remember this is not" just" about dogs. Our guaranteed rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms are being violated. Reverse onus (guilty until proven innocent) is now law and "hidden" in DOLA. This sets a precedent for reverse onus for future laws in this province. Under the Charter, we are all guaranteed the right to be considered innocent until proven guilty. Now, in Ontario it is the other way around. Illegal search and seizure is allowed under Bill 132. This means that a peace officer may enter your home without a warrant and take your dog if they believe it is an illegal “pit bull”. This means that if you have a short-haired, smooth coated, muscular dog with a ‘large’ head, you may be subject to having the police enter your home without a warrant and take your dog.
