A lawsuit by the City of Memphis says bank officials steered blacks toward high-interest subprime loans.

Mayor A C Wharton Today at 12pm at the National Civil Rights Museum, City of Memphis and Shelby County mayors announce the filing of a federal lawsuit under the Fair Housing Act. The lawsuit alleges unlawful, irresponsible, unfair, deceptive and discriminatory mortgage lending in Memphis and Shelby County.

To this end and in line with the recent economic forum hosted by President Obama, I am convening the Mayor’s Jobs Forum to facilitate a...n open discussion and exchange of ideas on how we can work together and better leverage our strengths in creating job opportunities locally.
