In a report for Newsday, Ken Davidoff quotes Omar Minaya as saying, “Some years are better than others,” with regards to the quality and quantity of players on the free-agent market. That said, in a morning report for the New York Post, Joel Sherman believes the Mets are split on how to... T...

I want to know what the heck Minaya did before the Mets. Wasn't he the GM of the Montreal Expos? If my memory serves me correctly, the Expos weren't exactly a powerhouse in the NL East. I mean, really now. Here's a little help. Sign Lackey, sign Matt Holliday and you know what, sign Roy Halladay also. Now we have a team that can compete with the other NY team in town. Take all those wonderful starters from last yr and make them backups.

well what I said is most likely what the Mets would do... do you honestly believe that Omar Manaya would do any different?

because in 2008 Omar's idea of a replacement closer for the injured Billy Wagner was Luis Ayala... he didn't want to trade away any prospects for an actual closer

in 2009, Omar didn't bother to make any noticeable mid year trades other than trade away Castro and trade Church for Francoeur... Read More

who would he trade away this year?

we need to develop our farm system and find more guys like david wright, guys who can be raised up to succeed in NYC... we can't just keep throwing millions of dollars away and we cant keep trading our prospects

when u look at championship teams, sure they have their share of players bought off the market, but they also all have greater amounts of great starting players that were brought up through their farm systems...

Yankees: Derek Jeter, Robinson Cano, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, Joba Chamberlain

Red Sox: Jon Lester, Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis, Jacoby Ellsbury, Jason Varitek

Phillies: Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino, Jayson Werth

all that the Mets really have is David Wright and Jose Reyes

and we would have A.J. Burnett and Scott Kazmir

but we traded them away

alls that i'm saying is that the Mets need a better mix of homegrown talent and purchased talent, and Mets can't do that if we trade away our top guys in the farm system

farm talent is also cheaper... if we get lucky and find a guy like Tim Lincecum, whose salary is only 600K per year, or if Mike Pelfrey pitches like he did in mid 2008, we can make the playoffs, and have extra room salary-wise to make a trade for a good player before the deadline that will help us out in September and October like CC Sabathia for the Brewers and Matt Stairs for the 2008 Phillies and Cliff Lee for the 2009 Phillies.

Matt Holliday will not come cheap. He would be worth it if the Mets did not have so many other voids to fill. Also, they have ruined the game of baseball by driving up salaries to a point where most other teams cannot compete. Hell, they even bid against themselves ie: Sabathia and A-Roid.
