Up until the last two centuries the illusion of depth has been one of the hallmarks of the western artistic tradition. However, beginning with Manet and some of the artists who followed him, the painted canvas became less about representing depth and rather became increasingly flat. Looking at this development elucidat...es an important aspect of the emergence of modern art.

Jeanne Papaさん My nieces attend wonderful Saturday art classes at the museum and I am there every Saturday with them. What an awesome place! Along with viewing the great exhibits, I've been enjoying the film festivals, scrumptious lunches at the Bravo restaurant, and great shopping in the gift shop. Being a museum member has lots of perks and is well worth it!
