South Florida students involved in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and 4-H programs weighed their cattle for next year’s fair at William Turner Technical on November 6th. This begins the almost 6 month process involved when exhibiting animals at The Fair. During this time, the students will tend to their animals daily, keeping records of all they do and everything they use. The cows must all reach a minimum weight of 850 pounds by show time. They eat almost 18 pounds of feed daily and gain an average of 2.5 to 3 pounds per day. The students are taught about the daily care involved, as well as the financial aspects of marketing their animals. Students will be expected to showcase their breeds in qualities and strength next year at The Fair™.
