Cory St Arnold

Cory St Arnold I shot a doe last night in the Barry State game area and lost the blood trail. It was a good shot, maybe a little forward with a fair amount of blood trail. The blood was kind of bright red. With the temps in the mid 40's last night, what are the chances of good meat when I find it this morn?

Michigan Department of Natural Resources FYI: An incorrect story ran in a Lower Peninsula newspaper this week stating that the baiting and feeding ban has been lifted. This is NOT TRUE! The baiting and feeding ban is still in effect in all areas of the Lower Peninsula. For answers to frequently asked questions about the regulations, go here: http://bit.ly/2DCjO2

Injesting droppings is how most disease is spread. The nose to nose theory has been debunked. CWD in Wisconsin has spread from a few big landowners planting food plots. They wanted QDM and got CWD. We can hunt in the lower...but in the UP we have to sit on bait. Potentially harmful? You bet!

I'm confused, In nature all the apples fall under the same tree -No? Wouldn't that be the same thing as baiting? If not , How does it differ? I don't hunt. It just seems the extra food couldn't hurt and might help the deer survive the winter or even make them stronger to survive any illness?

Michigan Department of Natural Resources Recent media reports announcing a Natural Resources Commission meeting today regarding crossbow regulations are INCORRECT. No NRC meeting is scheduled at this time to consider expanding the crossbow regulations. The Associated Press is retracting their story. For more information about the current crossbow regulations, go to www.michigan.gov/dnrhunting.

I bought a cheaper crossbow this year because I have been struggling with target panic for some time. Basically I have them both shooting a 480gr arrow about 250 fps. I can see advantages with both after shooting both out in the woods. And my target panic has cleared up in the mean time. I still limit my shot distance as I would with a compound. I still shoot my compound, but I like the crossbow too.

Check out these rare Albino Moose from Michigan. One would be rare, two of them is pretty much unheard of.

Stacked three face cord of firewood and watched my septic tank get pumped out. Not a banner day by most standards.

Will be scouting for deer runs on some state land in Emmet County. If there's a crowd there, I'll likely head for eastern Mackinac County instead.

It would be nice to get updates and summmaries of what took place at these meetings soon after they take place instead of a month down the road. Is there a possibility of getting that done here on the Facebook page?

Hi Ted -- It usually takes a month to send out the minutes, because they have to be approved by the commissioners at their next meeting. We do always send out press releases the next day regarding any decisions made at the meetings. But, I like your idea about possibly doing updates on Facebook or Twitter about what's going on at the meetings right as it's happening... I'll pass the idea along. Thanks! :)

That's much appreciated. The problem that I've seen in the past is that some issues are up for a discussion/vote at the next months meeting. By not having the prior months details available it can make for some overlapping of statements and discussions at the vote meetings. There's been a few I attended that were basically reruns of the earlier meeting due to this problem. Thank you for exploring the possibility of a faster approach to getting information out.

Hi Drew -- your friend should make sure to report any sightings/tracks/photos to the DNR so they can look into it. If you click on the link, there is information on how to do that. Thanks!

Jeff -- Yes, you are right, there have been confirmed cougars in both Minnesota and northern Wisconsin in recent years. One of the Minnesota cougars had a radio collar, so researchers knew it had come from the western Dakotas.
