Sonia Sotomayor's most aggressive defender is turning out to be New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg -- who is accusing the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee of "baseless personal attacks" against the Bronx native.

Jeff at 9:34am July 3
torn on this one I like having an appelate judge but is justice blind? In many different ways class and race play a part in the day to day business of the court. A good crimal defense lawyer versus a public defender say. Shouldn't justice be tempered with compassion? With out that doesn't it just become and idealogical exercise with limited real life uses other then to create a whole sub class for employment?

Maria at 9:44am July 3
No one is perfect. Even a judge of the Supreme Court has to learn a few things about life, even on the Supreme Court bench. So, let her do her job. Right or wrong, there are ways to overrule an unfair decision, if she makes one. Do not just let one "faux" decision (in your eyes) be a deterrent for other good work. Mayor Bloomberg is a good judge of... Read More people. Look at his administration and see how they have grown and performed over the past 4 years. The re will always be room for improvement. Mike Bloomberg Read Mike's op-ed supporting President Obama's push for a public health insurance option in today's New York Daily News: http://bit.ly/lejnL

Maria at 10:28am July 3
Great comments. Still coming from a home taught principle of living healthy, I think that the ills and temptations that endanger our health should in the first place not be encouraged by adherence to it. That is Preventive Health Measures. That should be increased in Public Health education campaigns.
For those who are already subject to the bad ... Read Moreconsequences of not doing so, this Public Insurance may be the answer. However, as Erwin mentioned groups in society that he thinks should not be receiving the benefits, here is my stance. If you are already on Social benefits, you should not be excluded from medical care. Some states go around the Medicare limitations by providing local free clinics and opening county hospital treatment to those on Food Stamps.
I still think that Medicare should be extended to all Food Stamp recipients. Those are the lowest income brackets and definitely will not even be able to afford the smallest premiums for health insurance.

As someone who works in the Insurance world, Cost Control is Key.National or State run programs should include a requirement that those who are able to pay for serviced should pay towards the cost of them. Those that are unable to should be given a managed care acces to benefits.Existing programs can be Better managed to extract greater savings and cost efficiencies. The poor and those Truly unable to afford care, should be given a managed care option of care.
