Joyce Sigman

Joyce Sigman Hi this is great info! I'm just developing a new organic food marketplace near Berkeley CA that will include a bio dynamic / organic / best of kind withing 200 miles and we want to understand the millennial market. We thought that wine tastings set on the outdoor dining patio or the brasserie would encourage a convers...ation with this group. Do you have and comments about this.

Joyce - first of all CONGRATULATIONS!!! I LOVE to hear about new businesses right now - especially those focusing on local farmers and produce (organic, biodynamic or otherwise ;).

I think your idea is DEAD ON. It's a great way to get young people to your shop while at the same time supporting some wonderful local producers (if you choose the wines right).

I'm so excited for you! Let's definitely keep talking.

The Millennier: Wine + Millennials Newest post on how Millennials view the wine industry trying to reach out to them.

millennier.wordpress.com
Everybody’s attempting to do the brand new dance now – it’s called TRY AND REACH OUT TO MILLENNIAL CONSUMERS. Well, what do Millennials think of all this? Granted, there aren’t nearly enough people attempting, but let’s look at the landscape.
Walter Marcinowski

Walter Marcinowski Robert Parker and the Wine Enthusiast have been the bane of good wine making for decades. The business of wine is driven by their two palates. The wine drinkers are in the hundreds of millions and much more diverse in taste. But if the winemaker does not bow before their altar they will not get the rating they need for... price support and distribution. The fact is that the world is now beginning to see the same over the top alcohol/fruit/acid imbalance and is totally bored with it. Go out and buy the same varietal in different price ranges invite your friends and have your own blind wine tastings. I think you will be amazed with the results.

Great job by Tina! Perhaps truer words have never been spoken when Paul Wagner says at about the 9 min mark, "if you got 88 points and you're not backed by a big winery, you basically don't exist for a distributorship unless YOU help sell the wine." But that being said, Parker's influence and points in general is a boomer phenomenon, right? Are millenials in danger of being influenced over time by big scores, even if they don't read RP or WS?

We GENERALLY don't look at scores when we are purchasing. We generally DO make judgments based on labels. I just did a study on this and came up with some seriously solid info, thanks to everyone that responded.

I think the bigger danger is not if WE look at the scores, but that it's the distributors that do. And many times if there's no distrib, people don't know it's out there. But that's when brokers come to the rescue ;)
