James, If you don't mind fitting some non-standard deadening, Second Skin Damplifier Pro is excellent. It's lighter and more effective than the standard Rover / BL stuff. I've used Dynamat Extreme as well, that seems good if a little more expensive.

every mini ive owned, ive always changed the plates to the black and silver ones, n never had a problem, think owning a mini gives us some sorta protection as minis are seen as classics, n if you see a classic car, you kinda expect to see black and silver plates, had police drive behind me n never even blinked an eye, so no matter the age of mini, id use the black and silver plates! sorted!

I wouldn't recommend it - have heard of many people being fined for doing the same thing.

what the police could give you before a fine and points is a rectification notice, this gives you i think 7 to 10 days to get the problem (i.e incorrect number plate showing) sorted, if after the allowed time you are still using the vehicle with the defect (wrong type plates fitted) this can lead to a fine and penalty points, depending on the mood of the officer/s are in.

i also have a set of twin carbs and a single carb not new and 2 engines 1 is a 998 and 1 im not sure of lol if you need ANYTHING plz tell me and i will tel you if i have it i really need the cash cos i want to go to gaydon but at the mo i cant cheers

the mini is sold as is, will not break it up sorry. i do have a near complete rear subframe though, lots of surface rust, but still solid.

Wish we were able to be there too. At least there will be pictures to see.
