Comedian and actor Bill Cosby was recently awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor by the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and that reminded me of this comic book in my possession–a memento of one of his earlier public triumphs, as “Scotty” in the 1960s TV series “I Spy.”

Back in the day, the light keepers at Split Rock and other Great Lakes lighthouses always had relatively easy duty during the summer months. Short nights, warm evenings, and settled weather made their jobs easy at that time of year.

Minnesota Historical Society In Mexican culture, the journey of death is considered a reason to celebrate, even in grief, and the colorful traditions and symbols of the holiday strengthen connections to ancestors. The Ofendas pictured were part of an event held Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009 at the Minnesota History Center. Ofendas are an essential part of the celebration. The word ofrenda means offering in Spanish.
