*** Some nice additions to an already trippy night >>
Ok so we have another fun + surreal friday coming up at Arthouse... here is what it looks like >>
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
1. Techniques of the Observer - Film Festival Preview
CURATED BY Karl Mendonca (Brooklyn) + Sheila Menon (London) and Thiruda (Indi...a)
Brookyln based film maker Karl Mendonca, London based Sheila Menon and Thiruda from BLOT are screening films from 2 of the film programmes we have lined for all of next year. the line up consists of original films from film makers practicing in NY and India.
Look out for a trippy cinematic experience with a VJ style immersive set up for the films.
The films already in place are >>
a. Circle of Confusion - Juan David Gonzalez Monroy (7:00 min) - 16mm, sound >>"The metaphysical struggle between a Humanzee Boy and his father over a glass of milk"
b. Lanka : Time Loss in Refrain - by Kevin T Allen (6:00 mins) - Super 8mm, sound >> "An experimental portrait of Sri Lanka told through time-lapse cinematography and field recordings."
c. El Paso Vietnam - by Ina Adele Ray (10 minutes) 16mm, sound
"In Texas during the Vietnam War, a smart, sassy, Vietnamese language teacher meets her future husband before he leaves for her hometown, Saigon, as told by her daughter through interviews, old photos, and archival footage."
d. Autonomy - Dir: Dave Tree (London) - 10 minutes
>> "Based on the short film "Living is easy with eyes closed" by Maximilian Werkhausen, Autonomy features Thomas Snowdon and Elizabeth Nestor. Autonomy won the Jury Prize at the London International Short Film Festival 2009."

e. Exit - by Mohanad Yaqubi (Palestine) and Jean Gaudin (France) - 10 minutes
>> " ‘Exit’ is collaboration that explores new forms of
expression. The London underground, as a location, is an integral part of the concept; however, it does not reveal itself and its identity at any point. Rather, it reveals an over-designed
space consumed with sharp lines: a vision of the future coming from the past. It also holds the theme of transporting, outside of time, outside of defined space. Is it a film? Is it a performance or a piece of video art? Is it the work of the film director or the
creation of the choreographer? Or is it simply a documentation of a dance?"

f. No Way Through - by Alexandra Monro and Sheila Menon (London) - 7 minutes
>> "Imagine if London was controlled by the military and Londoners had to go through specific checkpoints to go to school, go to work, visit friends or go to the hospital. By transposing the shocking reality of life in the West Bank onto a fictitious London, No Way Through brings the issue closer to home for the British public."
