mocoloco In the mail: not sure what to make of this (which I suppose is the role of art)… a public art installation, vacant storefronts covered with plywood curtains. http://moco.sm/d4DkLY "Jennifer Bolande's Plywood Curtains, a site-specific sculptural installation designed to activate the windows of vacated real estate along ...Wilshire Boulevard, and throughout Los Angeles. Bolande proposes to use vacant storefronts bringing a different kind of attention to spaces, momentarily empty and neglected. It is a creative reaction and positive transformation of the actual real estate crisis. There exists a rich tradition of artists using commercial building windows: in the 20s Jean Arp, Salvatore Dali, and Henri Rousseau all did surrealistic windows in New York department stores, and in the late 50s and early 60s pop artists Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, and Ed Ruscha made use of storefront windows in their work. Bolande will carry on this tradition with lively inventiveness and low-key wit with Plywood Curtains, an amalgam of sculpture and photography, tailor made for the storefronts windows."
