For years Neda Abghari has photographed a potluck of artists, performers, musicians, designers and other members of the class of fabulosity for her ongoing archive, theatlantacreatives.org. Her latest mission: documenting another right-brain tribe—Atlanta DJs clutching their favorite childhood toys. “I figured it would... be a sweet way to give a glimpse into who they are,” says Abghari of the assorted vinyl-torturers clutching plastic cameras, toy boom boxes and Romper Room Inchworms. Too-cool-for-school thus collides with visions of thumb-sucking and lunchbox-toting vulnerability. DJ Kevin O poses with his beloved G.I. Joe Snow Cat truck, while the psychedelic-minded Fringe Factory girls Vikki Vaden and Suzy Moran were, surprise, into that preteen acid trip, Lite-Brite. A host of local DJs will spin during Abghari’s opening ( Friday Nov. 6, 7-11 PM), which also includes her never- before-exhibited, yearbook-style portraits of local bands like Black Lips and Deerhunter as part of the art-music mashup.
