all these practices occur in the us too stephanie. It is estimated that there will be very few edible fish at all by 2011 with our current overfishing practices, fish farms (which we feed fishmeal to), and bycatch problems but no one seems to care about these problems and probably wont until there are no fish left. And bycatch does go to waste ... See Moresean. Ships don't keep what they didn't set out for because that would take too much room on the ship and it would have to port sooner not making new the profit it would originally have made. They surely have recoveed from the devastion from 2008 when they were found dead up and down the coast of California. I am an ametur photographer and went out most days last year and could not find a pelican if someone gave me a million dollors.
Now this year is a different story, a picture is worth a thousand words so to speak.

Pelicans are very intelligant, and sensitve animals, I saw three together earlier this year. One was not able to keep up, they had been flying in a single formation, equal distance apart. When the third one was unable to keep up the other two somehow knew, he had fallen behind. They sat in formation in the bay, while the two healthy brown pelicans stayed with the third one until he slowly drifted out to sea. This was nature again showing it's sensitvie side...

Not too long after I have seen the pelicans in the Montery Bay area strive. I even have an image of one with a bird in it's mouth, now I have several frames of it, and it is not totally clear to me if it got it my mistake and was trying to expel it out of it's mouth, I have looked at all of the shots, I took it in "blast" and it would be interesting to have someone to give their opinon also.

Give me a few minutes and I will post some very exciting photos of pelicans on my facebook..I am crazy about them.. and seagulll.. for that matter all the animals!..if the Aquarium wants copies, for use please ask, I will be happy to offer them too you in the correct resolution.

I do not like anything to the extreme, and if there are fishing practices that need further regulation, so be it. I just do not agree with the "all fishing is bad and needs to be stopped" that some people have. There is preservation and there is conservation. I believe that conservation best fits the needs of a planet on which we humans live.

... See MoreAnyway, I am not trying to say I like ocean litter or overfishing...but I fish recreationally and I hope to be able to still practice my hobby because it is very important to me. Any other fishermen on here?
