1920s Hollywood is the setting for this zany, light-hearted romantic comedy about the early days of sound film, when many a movie studio found itself scrambling to salvage the career of its chipmunk-voiced silent picture star.

MTI Featured Show of the Day: MOBY DICK! THE MUSICAL

On November 20, 1820, an 80 ton sperm whale attacked a whaling ship from Massachusetts called the Essex, partially inspiring Herman Melville's epic novel, Moby Dick (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moby-Dick). MTI commemorates the event with today's Featured Show: a wac...ky musical spoof of Melville's tale.

Ever thought Moby Dick would be a great subject for a musical? The students of St. Godley's Academy for Young Ladies do! In order to save their bankrupt school that's seen better days, the girls decide to put on a
musical version of Moby Dick. The highly comic, satirical romp through
this age-old mariner's tale that ensues proves to be a world of
endless, funny double entendres and wonderful, pastiche-y company
numbers.

Leave it to these resourceful girls, and their unflappable headmistress (played by a man in drag), to come up with a plan to keep the school afloat. Using whatever they can find at han...

Featured Show of the Day: THE CIVIL WAR

Seven score and six years ago today, Abraham Lincoln delivered a short speech dedicating a portion of the battlefield at Gettysburg as the Soldiers' National Cemetery, a speech which has become an integral part of the American cultural identity.

Based on Letters, diaries, and corr...espondence of Civil War soldiers and
their families as well as the words and writings of Abraham Lincoln,
Frederick Douglas and Walt Whitman, THE CIVIL WAR is unlike any other musical in the MTI Collection. Frank Wildhorn delivers a country and rock infused score that perfectly captures the moving and heartbreaking experiences of the ordinary Americans caught up in the epic battles on both sides of this national crisis.

Music Theatre International Featured Show of the Day: PIRATES OF PENZANCE JUNIOR

Happy Birthday, Mr. Gilbert!

Source: www.mtishows.com
Wacky, irreverent and as entertaining today as it was when it first opened in 1879, THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE spins a hilarious farce of sentimental pirates, bumbling policemen, dim-witted young lovers, dewy-eyed daughters and an eccentric Major-General, all morally bound to the often-ridiculous dicta...

MTI Featured Show of the Day: AIDA

Happy birthday, Tim Rice!

Known for his collaborations with Andrew Lloyd Webber as well as his lyrics for Disney animated films, Tim Rice teamed up with pop superstar Elton John (currently representated on Broadway with BILLY ELLIOT) and bookwriter/playwright David Henry Hwang (YELLOWF...ACE, M. BUTTERFLY) to create this pop-rock adaptation of the classic Verdi opera. Despite the story's tragic nature, AIDA offers a powerful message of hope and the strength of love.Read More

MTI Featured Show of the Day: STRIKE UP THE BAND

In honor of John Philip Sousa's birthday, rouse your patriotic spirit with MTI's Show of the Day!

The instigators of the Boston Tea Party have nothing on Horace J. Fletcher! Owner of the Fletcher American Cheese Company, Fletcher convinces the U.S. to go to war with Switz...erland over the normally neutral country's cheese tariff. But when war skeptic Jim Townsend and Fletcher's daughter make their love public, Fletcher quickly has Townsend shipped to the front lines in Switzerland. The man not only criticized the war--he insulted the quality of Fletcher's cheese!

This hilarious look at the relationship between food and patriotism has a score by George and Ira Gershwin and book by George S. Kaufman.

Music Theatre International MTI Featured Show of the Day: DAMN YANKEES

MTI Featured Show of the Day: FIORELLO!

The last time NYC elected a republican mayor for three terms, the result was this charming musical by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, the team behind the beloved musicals FIDDLER ON THE ROOF and SHE LOVES ME.

Unlike most political musicals, which are usually satires,
"Fiorello!" is ...really a love story set to the music and beat of a New
York City in the midst of change. The little man with the big hearts
continues to attract and charm audiences with his warmth and humor.

NYC's last 3-term Mayor (Ed Koch) was also the subject of a musical, MAYOR. No word yet on any forthcoming musical about the Bloomberg Administration.
