MTI Featured Show of the Day: STRIKE UP THE BAND

In honor of John Philip Sousa's birthday, rouse your patriotic spirit with MTI's Show of the Day!

The instigators of the Boston Tea Party have nothing on Horace J. Fletcher! Owner of the Fletcher American Cheese Company, Fletcher convinces the U.S. to go to war with Switz...erland over the normally neutral country's cheese tariff. But when war skeptic Jim Townsend and Fletcher's daughter make their love public, Fletcher quickly has Townsend shipped to the front lines in Switzerland. The man not only criticized the war--he insulted the quality of Fletcher's cheese!

This hilarious look at the relationship between food and patriotism has a score by George and Ira Gershwin and book by George S. Kaufman.

Music Theatre International MTI Featured Show of the Day: DAMN YANKEES

(Did anyone think we'd pick any other show today?)

We're sure there were Phillies fans that might have traded their souls for a World Series Victory last night -- though apparently none actually did so.

More than 50 years after its original Broadway debut, this musical classic remains as timely as ever.

Source: www.mtishows.com
Faust meets professional baseball in this Broadway classic from the creators of "The Pajama Game." Middle-aged baseball fanatic Joe Boyd trades his soul to the Devil (the charming but devious Mr. Applegate) for a chance to lead his favorite team to victory in the pennant race against the New York Ya...

Performed in this show in 2000 as Meg. Actually got my hubby on stage for this one as a baseball player/Mr. Hawkins. He did it as a 25th wedding anniversary present to me. What a fun show and what a great gift.

MTI Featured Show of the Day: FIORELLO!

The last time NYC elected a republican mayor for three terms, the result was this charming musical by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, the team behind the beloved musicals FIDDLER ON THE ROOF and SHE LOVES ME.

Unlike most political musicals, which are usually satires,
"Fiorello!" is ...really a love story set to the music and beat of a New
York City in the midst of change. The little man with the big hearts
continues to attract and charm audiences with his warmth and humor.

NYC's last 3-term Mayor (Ed Koch) was also the subject of a musical, MAYOR. No word yet on any forthcoming musical about the Bloomberg Administration.

One of only seven musicals to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, "Fiorello!" tells the story of the rise to power of New York's "Little Flower," Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia (1882-1947). In a time when the crooked political machine known as "Tammany Hall" was up to its ears in graft, vice and corruption,...

Glad to see all the love for this great musical! Mr. LaGuardia may not be as well known these days, but this musical transcends politics and is a real gem.

Yeah, originally that director was planning to do Finian's Rainbow, but couldn't get the rights. His second choice was Babes in Arms, but again, couldn't get the rights.

Music Theatre International MTI Featured Show of the Day: THE FIX

Because it's Election Day here in New York, today's show is an exciting, critical look at the American political machine--and the dysfunction that can happen when family and politics collide! The original production of this pop-rock satire starred Philip Quast and John Barrowman.

Source: www.mtishows.com
Part tabloid, part "The Manchurian Candidate," The Fix is a totally original biting satire ripped from the headlines of today, yesterday, and most likely tomorrow. A popular presidential candidate is dead, and his wife, who has power on the brain, thrusts her son into the political spotlight. Her ma...

Music Theatre International MTI Featured Show of the Day: CAROLINE, OR CHANGE

MTI welcomes November with this innovative sung-through musical by Tony winners Tony Kushner (ANGELS IN AMERICA) and Jeanine Tesori (SHREK, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE). Tesori's R&B and blues infused score will help keep your day a little brighter, even as the days get shorter.

Set in 1963 in sleepy Lake Charles, Louisiana, Caroline, or Change centers its action on the Gellman family and their African-American maid, Caroline. Everyone at MTI wishes you a spooky Halloween with this suspense-filled Sonheim/Wheeler musical! Revenge has never tasted--or sounded--so good!

Music Theatre International MTI Featured Show of the Day: CAPTAIN LOUIE

A perfect children's musical for Halloween, featuring a bubbly pop-rock score by Stephen Schwartz (WICKED, GODSPELL). Halloween may be a night for ghosts and goblins, but for Louie, Halloween is also a night for friendship and the power of imagination.

MTI Featured Show of the Day: JEKYLL & HYDE

This timeless tale of duality is a perfect metaphor for Halloween--a
night when the mischievous imp in all of us holds sway. Only, in Frank
Wildhorn and Leslie Bricusse's Tony nominated Broadway musical,
mild-mannered Dr. Henry Jekyll's alter ego, Edward Hyde, doesn't just
emerge... once a year. Wildhorn's rock-pop score is appropriately gritty
and soaring, capturing Jekyll's desperation to rid himself of the
monstrous Hyde and the life he hopes to regain. Ballads like "This Is
The Moment" and "A New Life" cut through generations of legend
surrounding the characters, lending them a compelling humanity that has
gripped audiences for over a decade.

Featured Show of the Day: THE FULL MONTY

The Full Monty originally opened on Broadway 9 years ago today, and quickly became the sleeper hit of the season. With a compelling story, adapted by Terrence McNally (RAGTIME, MASTER CLASS) and a great, tuneful, can't-help-but-sing-along score by David Yazbeck (DIRTY ROTTEN SCOU...NDRELS), your cast, your audiences and your critics will love this fresh new American musical! I played "Dave" in the New Zealand season.
We went all the way and yes we had back light but according to ALL of my freinds and family you could still "see everything"
The shame!!
But that's the fun of this show, it's not called The Full Monty full no reason, you have to do it.
By far one of my favorite shows to be in so far.

Featured Show of the Day: PIPPIN

On this day in 1972, PIPPIN opened on Broadway and ran for nearly 2000 performances!

This hip, tongue-in-cheek, anachronistic fairy tale captivated Broadway
audiences and continues to appeal to the young at heart everywhere (the
show has become a staple on high school and college campuses).... The
energetic pop-influenced score by three-time Oscar®-winning
composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz (“Godspell,” “Children of Eden” and
the animated films “Pocahontas,” “The Hunchback Of Notre Dame” and “The
Prince Of Egypt”) bursts with one showstopping number after another,
from soaring ballads to infectious dance numbers.
