Muscarelle Museum of Art At the Sadler Center, the Museum and the William and Mary Arts Collaborative will host photographs of Andy Warhol's infamous Factory studio taken by renowned photographer Nat Finkelstein. The photographer spent more than two years with Andy Warhol in the 1960s, capturing various day-to-day activities ranging from Warho...l and his assistants at work to live performances of the Velvet Underground, a rock band that Warhol managed.

Muscarelle Museum of Art Famed studio artist Gerard Malanga was Warhol's right-hand man during the height of production in the famous Factory. He will talk on his relationship with Andy Warhol and the Screen Test film portraits they produced together. Along with his talk, Malanga will also read from his own poetry projects and take audience questions.

The Twelve Sibyls, on view from August 4, 2009 through November 1, 2009, are fascinating examples of Spanish Baroque art produced for export to the New World. In the mid-seventeenth century, Francisco de Zurbarán (1598–1664) and his circle increasingly produced paintings for a colonial market. Series of martyred sain...ts and Roman emperors decorated churches and public spaces in Lima, Quito, and other cities. Like most series for export, the iconography derives from a set of prints— the model for this series is by Claude Vignon, engraved by Gilles Rousselet and Abraham Bosse in 1630.
The Twelve Sibyls were pagan prophetesses adopted into Christian iconography during the medieval period. Each foretold one of the principle events in the life of Christ. In 1508–12, Michelangelo painted five Sibyls on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. However, after the Council of Trent in the early 1560s restricted pagan imagery, they were less common in art. Although the provenance of this series is unknown, the unusual choice of subject may be explained by the foreign destination. In the background of each painting, a small narrative scene represents the event in Christ’s life prophesied by the Sibyl.
