Jeanene Arrington

Jeanene Arrington Just migrated - not happy so far. Seems to offer 1/2 of what we got in original version. I would gladly pay to have all the original functionality along with the new stuff....I will loose many inactive members if we continue with this version - very disappointed...

Pam We have a group that is recently migrated from MF1 to 2.5, I already had a login on 2.5, and accepted the invite to my newly migrated group, but it doesn't show up under Family Groups on my profile? (I can access the group by directly going to their page grpID: 17087433). But doesn't show up under my own settings, lik...e the Login isn't linked to that group. I'm not an admin of the group, but my friend is and she has the same problem.
Is this because the migration may not be complete? How long time-wize does it take to move the accounts/sync them?

That is actually the architecture of MF. You can administrate or just be a member of multiple groups (family 1, family 2, alumni, work, etc.), and all may have different levels of privacy but all share thsame username and password.

William Murray I enjoy all of the new features you are adding to the blogging feature of MyFamily but I have a major error in my site and cannot get anyone from MyFamily to respond. My Albums do not display. Can you suggest a contact that might be able to help me with this?

@Andrew Jackson....what developers are you talking about? The people responsible for developing the myfamily site are not the same ones that work with the Family Tree Maker(FTM) program.

@Dan North - you can easily land on your home page, if you put your home page in your browser address. One of the benefits of MF is that we can be members of more than one site, and having a default location to land on, when I don't tell MF which site I want to go to is hardly a negative feature. I am a member of ten sites and I am sure that I can land on any of them if I want to use my browsers bookmarks or just key in the location address.

Michelle Like Sonja...I am having that same problem with two family members. I just emailed them for help actually. We'll see. I also sent new invites to them....why does this happen though? It's especially frustrating for the older members who I had to make join, kicking and screaming over technology. If they have the slightes...t problem, they want to quit becaue they don't understand a website can be finicky sometimes. :>)

Complete the migration request form, making sure you have your site ID, and you should hear back from MF.

Angela Please, please, please. We need a way to easily embed links and you tube videos in discussions on our MyFamily site that doesn't involve code. My family can't understand what the heck to do with code. Please make is more user friendly for sharing links, videos, photos WITHIN discussions. PLEASE! Oh, and emoticons woul...d also be helpful. If not, Ning is looking better all the time but I don't want to move!

SilverthornYoutube links require copying the embed code that youtube gives you and dropping it in your myfamily text box. There is no way around it. The same is true in 'sharing' myfamily items. The fact that the 'code' needed is created, doesn't mean you have to understand it .. just copy and paste.

Looking at Ning, it looks interesting but more ... See Moreof a competitor to a social networking site (facebook, myspace, twitter, etc.) than to Myfamily. Also, you would decide on an offering based on emoticons? ;-)

William, I really don't think it is too much to ask to be able to insert a link, a photo, or make text bold/italic, bigger/smaller without physically typing in code. There are TONS of open source forum platforms that allow users to do these simple things without delving into code. You say it is a simple cut and paste. Not so, they still have to ... See Moreknow where the < and the /a> goes in message. Why the heck can't we just highlight a word in our discussion, click on a button and turn it blue or bold or underline or ANYTHING! Come on!

As for emoticons , no I wouldn't switch to Ning or something else just based on emoticons. But, again, it is found in tons of other open source forum platforms that my users are used to seeing it. MyFamily works well for my group, most of the time, but it needs to be brought up to speed with what you can find out there on the rest of the web for goodness sake.

Yes, I'm frustrated. I've been asking for this type of thing for a long time and I just don't understand why MyFamily can come up with an elaborate blogging platform and not a way to avoid code in a discussion.

In retrospect, I sort of agree with you. In MF 2.0 they did offer a great capability for doing outlining, bolding, font size changes, italics, underscore, image and link insertion with little if any HTML knowledge of the user. They apparently had great trouble maintaining whatever tool they were using and have simply dropped that function, ... See Moreleaving us with raw html input as our only option.

It also is very limited as to what you can do with HTML in a reply to a discussion, less limited but still limited in a new discussion (no font size, color changes, but outline works).
