Good point. There's no way this is accurate even to the nearest dollar!

there's no way they can get it down to 68 cents. I hate that .9 on gas too and the $10.95s and the $19.99s. Just admit that $19.99 is $20.00!

Do the people who insist on keeping the two numerals on the right of the decimal in this have a relationship with the people who refuse to eliminate the .9 cents on the gallon price of gasoline?

I call bullshit, how soon we forget the national deficit was going down under Clinton. Reagan and the two Bushes spent ridiculous sums of money. Both the left and the right spend, the only difference is the right spend it on excessive military expenditures like star wars, 12,000 nuclear weapons and huge corporate welfare and tax cuts mostly for the rich. The left spend it on education, healthcare and social services.

and you really can't blame truman, either. he inherited the war with about three months left in it. maybe you should add him to the list of people who /ended/ wars.

old-fashioned republicanism got us into the civil war, unless i'm much mistaken. i'm not saying the civil war wasn't worth fighting, just that it was a war, and it was fought. by a REPUBLICAN president.

I like people to see this, but I certainly don't like it. My portion is $40k (assuming everyone pays equally). I think less than 50% of US citizens pay taxes (excluding 20 Million ILLEGALs), that means I owe closer to $80k. But, I am in one of the higher tax brackets, meaning I will have to pay about $160k. I have 2 kids and a wife, meaning I am closer to paying $640k. I just threw up in my mouth. I have to get back to work.

If only paying $40k were even an option. I, for one, would take it. Step One: America stops borrowing friggin' money. Step Two: Everybody start making payments on their share of the national debt. Step Three: we start to prosper as a nation. Done and done.

Tony, when you're figuring out your portion of the debt you can't divide the debt by the current US population. You have to divide it by the total population that will have lived in the US until the debt is completely paid off.
In other words, if in fifty years there are 150 Million new Americans (i.e. Americans who were born or immigrated), and ... See Morethe debt has not been paid off, then the debt has to be divided by (current population + 150 Million).
Obviously, the debt will not be paid off in just 50 years. More like 200. So your portion is actually rather small.

fat chance. no more debt would mean entitlement program cuts. not many people are going to vote against their own income levels.

This is the current debt that all of us WILL pay for either by devaluation of the dollar, higher interest rates, higher taxes, hyper-inflation, crushed 401k's and savings or all of the above....the worst part about it, they're just gettin' started....just sayin'...
