You’ve seen these tech logos everywhere, but have you ever wondered how they came to be? Did you know that Apple’s original logo was Isaac Newton under an apple tree? Or that Nokia’s original logo was a fish?

Netmongrel Very satisfying to have clients return to you time and time again with new projects. It is especially good to know they see me as a "partner" and not just a service provider.

Netmongrel It is always an honor to pick up a new client. I'm pleased to welcome Georgia River Network - www.garivers.org - to the Netmongrel client family. Netmongrel I bet you might know someone who needs help with their website. Maybe the company you work for has a website that isn't adding to the bottom line. Maybe that website doesn't do a good job telling potential (or existing) clients the story of the value your company can provide for its customers. Maybe your company doe...sn't even have a website! If so I can help - get in touch 678-636-9201 - eric@netmongrel.com.

Netmongrel Wood. Wood is a material you might not immediately associate with the olympics or with upscale design. However two critical elements of the Vancouver games experience are made of wood. The awards podiums and the medal trays are both crafted of locally harvested wood. In the case of the podiums 200 pieces of compute...r-cut lumber with an undulating shape meant to mimic the mountains surrounding Vancouver. The medal trays are sculpted from the same type of wood and coated with a special non-slip coating to keep the medals from scooting off during ceremonies.

Netmongrel In keeping with my Olympics theme here is a look at the design of the Olympic medals at the Vancouver games. One of the things I've always loved about the Olympics is the richness of the designs associated with the games. New venue logos (new venue buildings for that matter), clothing, banners, medals, etc. Everywhe...re you look there is a new element that was designed strictly for this global event. This year’s medals were designed by architect Omer Arbel and feature Aboriginal artwork and inspiration.

                • Stacy Horton Flynt We were talking about the medals last night too. We were saying that we liked how big they are and how nice they look! It sure beats the cheap medals that Cassidy gets right now!

                • Netmongrel Yeah, they look big and thick and solid. I like how they don't have a rim either, just that cut, smooth edge. Nice looking

It's hard to beat a clever use of negative space in logo design. Here are 35 or so logos that use white space well, along with the designers and agencies who created them.
