New Hope Bible Church "More than our showing the world how relevant the church can be, God wants us to show him how much we treasure him above all else. He wants to find in us the same sense of identification with him that is appropriate to human marriage." Raymond Ortlund on an application from Hosea.

New Hope Bible Church A lesson from Hosea: "Every faithful and loving marriage is precious to God; it shines with the light of Christ's love for his people, and of their devotion to him, in the darkness of this present evil age" (Raymond Ortlund).

New Hope Bible Church From the front of this week's bulletin: “The gospel is not an imperialistic human philosophy making overrated universal claims; the gospel sounds the voice of our Husband who has proven his love for us and who calls for our undivided love in return" (Raymond Ortlund). The order of service for this coming Sunday is po...sted online for your prayerful preparation before worship (link attached).

New Hope Bible Church Through Hosea God complains to Israel that her love for him is like the morning dew...with just a little heat it is burned away and gone (6:4). In contrast, God's love for Israel is as guaranteed as the morning sunrise (6:3). The beginning of each new day speaks truth to our hearts...we are prone to wander and He is determined to bring us back.

New Hope Bible Church Here is a link to a powerful story about a shattered marriage covenant and the power of the gospel to change lives. Watch it in light of our series on Hosea. Though the genders are reversed (an unfaithful husband) put yourself in the wife's place. Would you reconcile? And then remember that our Father pursues his wandering bride.

New Hope Bible Church The text for this coming Sunday's sermon is Hosea 5:8-7:2. In the middle of a bleak section describing Israel's worldliness and bent on self-destruction is a wonderful passage that looks forward to a seemingly unreachable conclusion (5:15-6:3). God pursues his wayward bride.

New Hope Bible Church A Tim Keller quote on the front of tomorrow's bulletin: “Spiritual pride is the illusion that you are competent to run your own life, achieve your own sense of self worth, and find a purpose big enough to give you meaning in life without God.”

New Hope Bible Church Just a reminder that tomorrow we will celebrate the Lord's table. It is the second Sunday in Lent, which you can learn more about by visiting the attached link.

The season of Lent has not been well observed in much of evangelical Christianity, largely because it was associated with "high church" liturgical worship that some churches were eager to reject. However, ...

New Hope Bible Church Do you find the Bible boring? Here are seven possible reasons why.

www.reclaimingthemind.org
Speaking from a protestant perspective, the Holy Bible is the final authority for faith and practice. Moreover, it is God’s ultimate communication to us. However, there are a number of Christians who ...

I found the comments after the article interesting.I always enjoy reading more after returning from a particular in depth examination of a portion of scripture in a sermon. I use my Life Application Bible to connect what was preached and read to my day to day relationships. Being interested in history also doesn't hurt.

Great comment, Steve. I've also been trying to post the text for the sermon prior to Sunday, as that will no doubt help one to prepare to hear as well. Going back after the sermon is especially helpful and a good study Bible aids the thought/refining process. Isn't being interested in history a prerequisite (Psalm 105)?

New Hope Bible Church The text this week is Hosea 4-5:7. These are tough verses condemning idolatry. As Ortlund says, "What is the church's proper relationship with popular consumer culture? At heart, are those who claim the betrothal gratefully contented with the providences of their husband, or are they nervously addicted to the materi...al goods of this world, as are those who have no higher love claiming and filling their souls?"

New Hope Bible Church Raymond Ortlund on a lesson from Hosea: "Faithfulness requires a careful monitoring of ourselves. Given the seductive power of our sinfulness, fidelity to Christ calls for a proper sense of self-doubt, for God searches deeply into the inner quality of his church with probing, inconvenient, embarrassing questions."

New Hope Bible Church Raymond Ortlund on the gospel in Hosea: "The gospel reveals that, as we look out into the universe, ultimate reality is not cold, dark, blank space; ultimate reality is romance. There is a God above with love in his eyes for us and infinite joy to offer us, and he has set himself upon winning our hearts for himself alone."
