I started 'NITES in 2008 because I love live music and wanted to give free promotion to unsigned local bands. They're the ones who need it (and appreciate it) most.

Wow...weird, I was actually about to listen to De-Loused when I read this. Yes! Great album!

'NITES Question if you've seen Avatar: Is it actually a great movie (compelling story and interesting characters), or is it another case of mediocre acting/writing with above-average special effects? The trailer makes it look laughably bad.

The Bright Light Social Hour have had a pretty good 2009. They won the ACL Sound and the Jury competition, which gave them an opening slot at Austin City Limits Fest. They also filmed a pretty funky music ...

'NITES I just downloaded an Omar Rodriguez-Lopez album I didn't know existed. It's his sixth solo album of 2009, apparently. It's called Solar Gambling.

Omar is a much more restrained songwriter outside of The Mars Volta (or he can be, anyway). He recorded three studio albums with the Mexican singer Ximena Sarinana this year. This stuff is brilliant, especially the piano ballad "Poincaré".

Reading their Wikipedia page: "(Brian) Gibson plays his bass guitar tuned to cello standard tuning, in intervals of fifths (C G D A), using a banjo string for the high A. He used this four-string setup for several years, but has recently been seen using a five-string setup, tuned to C G D A E, with banjo strings for the A and E. Gibson also uses several effects pedals, including overdrive pedals, an octaver, a delay pedal, and a whammy pedal (pitch shifter)."

'NITES Today is the last day to download Love at 20's album for free. Their new music video sounds like a more indie and subdued Muse singing about girls instead of alien-invasion apocalypse.
