Navigating a successful career path can be a struggle. But along the way we have acquired and internalized career “truisms” that are said to help us make the right decisions, like “job-hopping gets you to the top” and “a move should always be a move up.” But are these really the best strategies?

Q1: Fallacy 1: “Job-hoppers prosper.” Have you “job hopped?” What were the benefits or drawbacks?

Q2: Fallacy 2: “A move should be a move up.” In what circumstances would you make a lateral career move?

Q3: What is the best counterintuitive career advice you’ve been given?
