Statement on the Current Health Care Debate

by Sarah Palin on Friday, August 7, 2009 at 1:26pm ·

As more Americans delve into the disturbing details of the nationalized health care plan that the current administration is rushing through Congress, our collective jaw is dropping, and we’re saying not just no, but hell no!

The Democrats promise that a government health care system will reduce the cost of health care, but as the economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, government health care will not reduce the cost; it will simply refuse to pay the cost. And who will suffer the most when they ration care? The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s “death panel” so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their “level of productivity in society,” whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.

Health care by definition involves life and death decisions. Human rights and human dignity must be at the center of any health care discussion.

Rep. Michele Bachmann highlighted the Orwellian thinking of the president’s health care advisor, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the brother of the White House chief of staff, in a floor speech to the House of Representatives. I commend her for being a voice for the most precious members of our society, our children and our seniors.

We must step up and engage in this most crucial debate. Nationalizing our health care system is a point of no return for government interference in the lives of its citizens. If we go down this path, there will be no turning back. Ronald Reagan once wrote, “Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth.” Let’s stop and think and make our voices heard before it’s too late.

    • Konnie Hoover Death Panels? Pants on fire! If anyone could gather that from the statement about end-of-life counseling, I must wonder if their reading comprehension is above 4th grade level. But it seems a moot point, since the obstructionist Republicans and turncoat Lieberman have gutted the bill of anything resembling meaningful reform.

Palin's statements are full of outright lies. Do your research. Her lies are despicable. Almost anyone would agree that "The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of... Obama’s “death panel” so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their “level of productivity in society,” whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil." is downright evil. That's not even close to what this legislation is proposing. See More

    • Tina Leisner McDermott Palin is not qualified in any way to be a public figure due to her constant misperceptions of reality and ignorance. Her quote above is concrete proof.

    • Jennifer Flinchum I wonder if anyone here works in healthcare. If they did, they might know how ignorant they are. "Death panel"may seem to be a fantasy, but Rationing is a real government reality.

    • Catherine Lee Jennifer, I'm studying to go into healthcare, and NONE of my teachers (retired doctors and nurses) want Obamacare. They say that a government bureaucrat will decide who gets care and who won't, and that is rationing and putting your health care decisions in the hands of a DEATH PANEL.

    • Susan G Hundley It's bad enough that insurance companies make decisions on what procedures and when. There needs to be reform but I shudder when I think about Obamacare and it's ramifications.

    • Daniel Larrosa i find it quite sickening not only that you would use your own child's down syndrome to score political points, but that you feel you can lie through your teeth and tell people that Obama is planning to have 'death panels' in any way shape or form.

      Shame on you.

I am afraid the more I hear from Republicans, the more I think they are just downright stupid. There must be Republicans who aren't intellectually bereft, so why do they keep fielding the morons???

All I can say is that Mrs Palin is showi...ng her true colours. Me, me,me,me,me. She has nothing to worry about as the system stands as she can afford to pay as much as any healthcare plan costs. Shame about everyone in the US who cannot.

This woman is not only stupid (as she has proven in several different arenas), she is a selfish, nasty piece of work. I'm thinking that might be the criteria Republicans use in recruitment.

    • Rose Adams I'm British and nationalised healthcare has saved my life. I think you should go back to Pre-School or maybe read your beloved country's constitution that says you are all created equal and not only worthy of how much healthcare you can pay for.
Thank you, you elitist snob, now go join the real world yeah?
      February 8, 2010 at 12:51pm
    • Michael Johnson
Rose, you best learn to read better. The phrase "created equal" is not in the US Constitution. It's in the Declaration of Independence. But, more importantly both documents defend our liberty and oppose tyranny. That means they oppose y...ou taking my money to pay for things you want. If only we would follow them more faithfully.

BTW, a "health system" didn't save you. It was doctors, nurses, medicine, medical procedures etc. And you have no "right" to their services or products as long as they and the people who pay for them are free. You only have a "right" to them if they and the payors are enslaved.

Too bad you don't understand that, you fascist.

Michael, not only did I just vomit reading your comment, but I gave you a big middle finger for your obvious selfishness. So let's see, if we are so free, then why can't some of us pay for our health care? What the fuck do we do when your ...insurance company drops your coverage or refuses to pay for it? Why should insurance companies get 10-20% profit of OUR money from the insurance pool? Why should profit even be a part of the health care equation? The fact is, just like we Americans pay taxes for firefighters, police officers, and mailmen, we should do the same for health coverage. Not only that, but the money we normally pay for insurance would go to the government so that the insurance pool is much larger and that EVERYONE will be covered, not just a select few. No stupid fundamental profit motive will be involved. Plus, I'm tired of faggots like you who like to disguise themselves as Pro-Constitution, yet put Corporate America first.See More

That is just far out. That people actually believe in these things. You americans have the most expensive healtcare system in the world, and yet so many people is let down. That is a sign which says the money is distributed in the wrong way.... To the private health insurance companys pockets to be specific. What kind of "evil" is that Palin? You should be a shamed of yourself, by contributing to the, already stupid part of Americans, and their prejudgment of the welfare-state. Look at denmark for once, and shut up!See More

      Oh the irony...
And actually Michael, the NHS DID save my life (not that I'm faulting those nurses and doctors) because without the NHS my parents would not have been able to afford the healthcare I needed when I was born 2 months prematurely.
Think how many children in the USA who have suffered because of the short sightedness of the Republicans.

Obviously, the people who are all for the "great" government-run health care Obama is trying to ram down our throats have not had the experiences with government health care that I have. I am old enough to remember well when we used to hav...e quality health care. My first hip replacement was practically painless, with 5 days of quality hospital care. During my second hip replacement I was ignored by the hospital staff and when I complained I was told to complain to my congressman, not to the hospital. I just had a hip replacement revision and woke up screaming in pain from lack of enough anesthesia. I stopped breathing and was put back into ICU to be revived. I was still sent home the second day from surgery, barely alive for my poor husband to do the hospital care. Can any of you imagine how much worse the quality of our healthcare will be if the government gets control of all health care!! See More

Keep it up Governor! Reading these comments, I am simply amazed at the hatred of people that do not agree. Thank you for standing against the first U.S. Congress and President in our history actively trying to destroy, or as they say, “ref...orm” our great country. Is it not amazing that when you speak the truth in love, it throws the faithless into a tailspin. Leaving them nothing to do, but to lash out it anger. You know as well as I do, you are in good company. The light shines in the darkness and the dark does not comprehend. As for you commenting, who are so full of hatred, I pray that the kindness of God would be poured into your life, for it is the kindness of God that leads us to repentance. Be blessed.
