New Army Mulitcam Camo Uniform Under Consideration
The Army Times is reporting that the Army is considering replacing ACUs in Afghanistan with a new Multicam Camouflage uniform.

The Army chose the Universal Camouflage Pattern over the Multicam Camouflage Pattern and began fielding the Army Combat Uniform (ACU) in 2002.  Instead of creating Desert and Woodland camouflage uniforms like the Marine Corps, the Army chose a single uniform for all environments.  The resulting ACU is a Universal Camouflage mix of green, tan and gray.

The search for a new Army Camouflage uniform is a direct result of numerous complaints from Soldiers that the Army Combat Uniform is ineffective in Afghanistan and other environments.  As a result the Army is considering a Multicam Camo Uniform as a replacement for the ACU as the combat uniform in Afghanistan.

Army personnel are studying the need change to Multicam Camouflage and have had several meetings on the subject of an ACU replacement uniform.

Congress received complaints from Soldiers on the ineffectiveness of the ACU and gave the Army until 20 Sept to present a plan for outfitting Soldiers in Afghanistan with a new combat uniform.

Army Special Operations forces, Ranger Units and Special Forces favor the Multicam Camo pattern over the ACU pattern in both Afghanistan and Iraq.  Additionally, Soldiers who participated in a 2006 assessment favored the Multicam Camouflage uniform over the ACU.

Soldiers can read more about the proposed Army Mulitcam Camouflage Uniform in the Army Times.
