Elyria Fence Inc.: Staining Your New Fence, Arbor, or Trellis from Elyria Fence!

Staining Your New Fence, Arbor, or Trellis from Elyria Fence!
Early fall is the last chance to get your staining projects off your to-do checklist! It's important to complete a staining project before the temperatures drop too low. The best part about staining in September is that the temperatures are quite a bit more moderate. On those scorching days in July, it can feel as though the stain is drying faster than your pace of applying it! It can make even coverage a bit tricky. September, historically, tends to not be quite as rainy as its neighboring month - October. So if staining is in the plans for this year, now is the time to move on it.

When planning to stain your fence, deck, trellis or arbor the most important thing to do is to buy a quality stain. Purchasing a poor quality stain will only mean that you'll be reapplying more of it more often. A good stain should only need to be reapplied every 3 or 4 years. If you have a local paint store - they are the experts that will give you the best advice. They typically stock a more premium brand than the box stores do, and it should give you a better lifespan and protection for your new fence. The quality of the stain is not a place that anyone wants to cut corners! If you do not have a local paint store, we've had a number of customers which have had excellent luck with the products and advice that have come from Elyria Lorain Paints. Elyria Lorain Paints is located at 6936 Lake Avenue in Elyria. Their phone number is 440-324-4144.

Our company does not sell stain, and so it is our pleasure to pass along the unbiased advice and experience that we've picked up along the way. We've also been very lucky to receive some great feedback from customers on the products that they've had the best luck with. So based on customer experience, here's our best advice on brands. All things Benjamin Moore are typically quite good. Benjamin Moore does have an exterior stain for fences & decks. To find additional information on it check out their website at http://www.benjaminmoore.com/bmpsweb/portals/bmps.portal?_nfpb=true&_windowLabel=contentrenderer_1_3&contentrenderer_1_3_actionOverride=%2Fbm%2Fcms%2FContentRenderer%2FrenderContent&contentrenderer_1_3cnp=public_site%2Farticles%2Fproduct_articles%2Fpa_ext_woodstain_clearfinishes_decks_siding&contentrenderer_1_3np=productcatalog%2Fproduct_pages%2Fpaint%2Fprd_c321&_pageLabel=fh_findproducts
Another great brand that our customers have had success with is Super Deck. You'll find additional information on this brand at http://www.superdeck.com/
Last but not least CW FLood Company has an excellent reputation, and also deserves consideration. You'll find information on them at http://www.floodco.com/index.jsp

As much as it doesn't sound appealing, brushing the stain on is the best way to achieve an even look. If that's not an option, most stain can be sprayed on through the use of a commercial sprayer. If you choose this option - take the extra time to back brush the stain in. You'll regret skipping this step - it will typically result in uneven coverage.

Stains come in a variety of colors to coordinate with your home color and landscaping. They are available in translucent colors along with the opaque colors. The old system to achieve a solid white fence was always to paint it. DO NOT PAINT YOUR FENCE! Painting will only trap moisture against the boards, and rot will quickly ensue! Stain is available in opaque white, and it looks fantastic! The best part - when the stain fades over time there's not need to chip and sand. Just give it a wash with the pressure washer, and reapply the stain. It's that simple. Staining your new fence or arbor should extend the life of your purchase from Elyria Fence to around 30 years. Not too worry though. If staining is never in the plans - your white cedar fence from Elyria Fence should still see around 20 years of beautiful life in your yard!
