Air Force Public Affairs is reporting that the Air Force is researching flame resistant uniforms.  Members of the Air Force Uniform Office attended a three day seminar in July to learn more about the latest developments in wool production.  Wool, when exposed to flame, chars instead of melting. 

Wool provides a natural ability to self-extinguish when exposed to flame.  Wool also naturally resists stains, absorbs moisture and has the ability to cool or provide warmth depending on the temperature.

The Air Force Uniform Office is working with the other services and looking into different fiber options for flame resistant uniforms.
