Greater Columbus Arts Council: COLUMBUS DANCE THEATRE'S JUDSON VEACH TO STUDY AT SCHOOL OF AMERICAN BALLET
COLUMBUS DANCE THEATRE'S JUDSON VEACH TO STUDY AT SCHOOL OF AMERICAN BALLET
Columbus Dance Theatre is proud to announce that long-time CDT student Judson Veach has been granted a full tuition scholarship to study at the prestigious School of American Ballet, the official School of the New York City Ballet, for the academic year 2009-2010. Mr. Veach studied at SAB last summer and was offered this position for the year during the summer session. Judson has been a student in the CDT School from the age of 6, studying through all levels of the Columbus Dance Theatre training program. "This is a significant event for our program," says CDT Artistic Director and Judson's father Tim Veach. "At this level the competition for these positions is intense. Judson's acceptance is a testimony to his hard work and the training he has received at Columbus Dance Theatre."
While at SAB, Mr. Veach will take daily ballet, strength training, partnering, and men's classes. His teachers will include: Jock Soto, Andrei Kramarevsky, Johnathan Stafford, Peter Frame, and Peter Martins. "I am very excited to work with this prestigious faculty and train with such high caliber dancers," says Judson.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for him to complete his dance education under an exceptional roster of faculty at the nation's oldest ballet school," says the elder Veach. "As the Director of the Company I am so proud of his accomplishment, and, of course, I am so proud as his father as well. Columbus Dance Theatre would be excited to make this announcement for any of our students, but I would have to say that today I am doubly proud to do so. Judson moved up through every aspect of the CDT program starting as a young child, then studying in our Intensive Training Program, and finally apprenticing to the Company. He has worked hard. It is certainly a joyful moment when a young person can fulfill a dream."
Mr. Veach will be a senior next year and will complete his high school studies on-line through the post secondary education program through Columbus State Community College and Westerville South High School.
"CDT has perfectly prepared me to excel in this new setting," says Mr. Veach.
Columbus Dance Theatre wishes him well in his artistic journey.
Columbus Dance Theatre was one of seven organizations awarded Project Support grants last spring which GCAC administers on behalf of the City of Columbus.
