Di-Namix Chart Celebrates 18th Anniversary!
Turning 18!
The very first Di-Namix chart was printed for the last week of August, way back in 1991. Exactly 18 years later, it is still going strong and hasn't missed a week!

I was trying to find similarities between that first chart and this week's list, but there aren't many to be found. Let's see how far I can stretch. The August 31, 1991 chart was only a Top 20 list, so I will compare & contrast with the Top 20 of this week's (8/29/09) chart:

The first chart contained ten R&B or Dance-oriented groups (Boyz II Men, Rythm Syndicate, Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch, Heavy D & The Boyz, C+C Music Factory, The KLF, D.J. Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Salt-N-Pepa, EMF and Natural Selection). This week's Top 20 features just three (The Black Eyed Peas, The Ting Tings and The Pussycat Dolls).

Pop/rock groups contributed to five positions on the 1991 chart (The Escape Club, Roxette, Jesus Jones, The Black Crowes and R.E.M.), while Daughtry, Cobra Starship, Green Day, Boys Like Girls and Kings Of Leon rule the Top 20 these days.

There was only one solo male artist on the premiere chart, which was Bryan Adams at the No. 1 spot. This week, Rob Thomas, Pitbull, David Cook, Sean Kingston and Jay Sean take up 1/4 of the Top 20 spots.

Solo female artists took the remaining four spots (Corina, Tara Kemp and two songs by Paula Abdul). 18 years later, there are seven solo females in the Top 20 (Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Jordin Sparks, Lady GaGa, Shakira, Keri Hilson and Beyoncé).

Not a single artist from the original chart has a current hit. The most recent appearance by an artist that appeared on the first chart is by Will Smith, who most recently charted in 2005 (the 1991 appearance was credited to his alter-ego, The Fresh Prince).
Di-Namix turns 18 this week!
