850 The Buzz: 850 The Buzz is Dead. Long Live 620 The Buzz.

850 The Buzz is Dead. Long Live 620 The Buzz.

The Triangle’s Sports Leader is moving down the dial to AM620. The “new” Buzz will debut on Monday, November 2nd.

So what is the new programming lineup between 620 The Buzz and 99.9 The Fan?

9am – 12pm: Dan Patrick (Taylor Zarzour scheduled to begin January 4th.)

12pm – 2pm: Jim Rome

2pm – 4pm: Scott Van Pelt

99.9FM The Fan weekday lineup

Wait a sec, I don’t see all the names I typically listen to every day. What’s going on?

We’ve bragged about having the smartest listeners in the audience. Connect the dots.

OK, we get it. 850 The Buzz will become 620 The Buzz, but what happens to the AM850 signal?

The programming on 99.9FM The Fan will be simulcast on 850 in the first weeks of the transition. After that, the ball is no longer in our court. New ownership takes over and the signal will broadcast something new.

What happens to THEE Blog?

THEE Blog is dead. This will be the last official post.

Final stats: Over 3 million visits, 6 million page views, and nearly 110,000 comments since March of 2006.

OK, but 620 The Buzz will have a web presence. Right?

Yes. There will be a new “sports radio experience” coming on Monday. Web streaming, podcasts, etc. You’ll get further information next week.

Cool, because I can’t get AM620 in the office. However, where will I waste precious company time engaging in comment section flame wars? Where will you hate on everybody’s posse?

Your lovable snarky web dork will be found on WRALSportsFan. Look for blogging on the FanKind portion of the site.

Are my old 850 The Buzz t-shirts and other memorabilia worth anything now?

The only value added will be irony. Kind of like rockn’ a mustache.

Seriously, I’m not watering up. I got something in my eye…

No worries, it’s a bittersweet day. I began listening to 850 The Buzz as a senior at Cardinal Gibbons High School, and it was in my radio preset rotation all through college at NC State. The Buzz was my first “real” job, where they needed cheap labor producing weekend programming. The company eventually needed more cheap labor for weekday scheduling. Tickers, producing, and eventually hosting. This company also allowed me to tinker around with ideas, both on the air and on the web. Bottom line — the suits here let me do my thing. Many people in this business have not enjoyed such freedom. For that, I will always be thankful. Oh, and the checks cleared. Bonus!

A 40oz. for my fallen homies — Chris Clark, Russ Henry, Mike Stangl, Tony Riggsbee and Bomani Jones. A Jägerbomb for my MoJo partner-in-crime, Morgan Patrick.

This concludes our broadcast day. Peace out, melonfarmers.
