Mary Jo Kilroy: Mission Accomplished?

Mission Accomplished?
Today marks the 5th year anniversary of President Bush’s infamous “Mission Accomplished” speech aboard the U.S.S. Lincoln aircraft carrier. Five years later, the war in Iraq continues to stretch our troops and their families, saps the military readiness for the fight against terrorism and hurts our economy. In April alone, the death toll rose by 50 Americans, the highest for a single month since last September.

“Five years ago today President Bush declared ‘Mission Accomplished’ in Iraq, a war that has severely strained our military and our economy. 167 of Ohio’s sons and daughters have lost their lives in this war, and 1,238 have been wounded and it’s time to bring our troops home,” said Mary Jo Kilroy, candidate for Congress in Ohio’s 15thdistrict.

“This war has cost American taxpayers $600 billion to fight and rebuild Iraq even as Iraq received $70 billion in oil revenues this past year. There’s so much at home that has not been accomplished, and when I’m elected I will vote to start bringing our troops home in a responsible way so we can invest in jobs, and expand economic opportunity here at home.”

Mary Jo Kilroy is a Franklin County Commissioner and is running for Congress to bring people together, end the war in Iraq, stimulate the creation of good jobs and expand the access of affordable healthcare for every American. The Congressional District encompasses western Franklin County and the city of Columbus and all of Madison and Union counties.
