Droid Launches – Limited chatter on Privacy Concerns

As the Google Droid phone launches today many stories are appearing about the lines to get the phones.

But there is some evidence of demand for the Droid: Some people are tweeting about being in line for thephone right now. But the lines are very short — where they exist at all.

But I have noticed relatively no discussion of how this will be a new source for Google to collect scores of information on users. While Google’s dominant online presence already gives it access to unprecedented amounts of information on users, the Droid could provide Google with even more information. Should we expect to see Google using turn-by-turn directions to track our location and give us location based ads? It seems to fit the Google model.

We’ll have to see what information Google collects on its users and how it will use that information.
