You may not have heard of theIndian Health Service, but IHS is another public health system run by the government. It provides services to about 1.8 million Native Americans; its annual budget is $3.6 billion.

Today on KUOW’s Weekday, Steve Scher leads a discussion about how IHS works, and sometimes, doesn’t work, for those it serves. The guests include Mark Trahant, who reported on IHS when he was at the former Seattle Post-Intelligencer, and members of two Indian health boards.
