Due for a hefty pay raise, it was expected that the Marlins would measure interest for two-time All-Star Dan Uggla.

On Wednesday, a few possibilities emerged.

According to FoxSports.com, the Giants and Orioles have expressed interest in Uggla. The Red Sox reportedly also may be an option.

The Giants, the report said, may consider Uggla as an option to play third base. The thinking is Pablo Sandoval would swift from third to first base. Uggla has exclusively played second base in the big leagues, although he had some work at third base in the Minor Leagues in 2005.

If Uggla, who will see his salary raise from $5.35 million to around $7 million, is dealt, the Marlins may be more inclined to keep Jorge Cantu, according to the FoxSports.com.

The Red Sox would consider Uggla as an option for left field.

Look for the Nationals also to show interest in Uggla.

I love Dan Uggla. The man plays every game on defense/offense with his heart. Yes he may not hit for avg. right now but he still produces 30 HR seasons. As a 2B too, lets not forget. The problem is baseball's a business and the Marlins who don't have a big payroll to mess around with have to say goodbye right now. I hate to see him go. I will ... Itd be nice to see uggla stay but they cant afford everything and theyre locking up Josh Johnson this winter so having him and hanley for the next 7 years is a good start. When you dont have a lot of money you have to make smart money conscoius decisions and they tend to do that well

uggla is still in his arbitration years...if your going to lose him wait until his arbitration years are gone and then u can either trade him or let him go and get compensation picks for him...being a two time all-star...he would probably qualify as a type-a free agent by then.....this is a retarded idea...keep uggs!!!!!

oh and another thing that irritates me is the misconception that our front office ALWAYS makes good deals....hello???? we got rid of miguel cabrera for cameron maybin and andrew miller....r u kidding me??? a guy who has yet to show his "superstar" potential and another guy who cant throw two strikes in a row to save his life...imagine coghlan, uggla, hanley, cabrera, and cantu as a potential 1-5 lineup....haaaaa....yea our front office made a wise move on that one

we might as well trade him off. he is horrible in certain situations and it took him 3/4 of last season to finally start hitting the ball. just like every other marlin that is traded off, he will blossom into a superstar.

And Cliff, Kenney and Steffan -- I totally agree. To think how well the Marlins do with the payroll they have? Benfest is a freakin baseball genius. I think a salary cap would be awful for the Marlins, because it would mean teams with money would have to lure him away to have a chance.

honestly I think it's disappointing the marlins payroll is actually remaining the same if not a bit smaller. But I have hope as long as Cody and Cantu stay with the team. I was glad to see Hermida go, and... well, I'd miss Uggla too but it's for the best. I'm not particularly against that decision.

Brad, nobody claims Beinfest is flawless, and you may be right about Miller, but I think Maybin will pan out. As for losing Cabrera, the guy is a hitting machine, but he is out-of-shape, and cannot play defense. He's made for the AL, not the NL. He also appears to have a lousy attitude and personal baggage. Not a guy the Marlins wouild want long term.

After reading these comments, I've come to realize that most of you people need to wake up. You don't go to the stadium because you think the teams keeps getting sold away. If it was your money, you'd want to minimize the spending and maximize the results. We've had a winning team three seasons running and have been in contention until the last ... See Morecouple of weeks each of those seasons. But people still don't go to the stadium because they think the team sucks because there is a bunch of young guys out on the field. This is one of the smartest managed franchises out there, and the best small market team out there. When was the last time that storied franchises like the Reds, the Pirates, and the Nationals (Expos), had a winning season? Can anyone even remember? You need to quit your whining, count your blessings, show up at the stadium and then you can demand a winning team. By the way, 7 million bucks for a guy who barely broke .230 even with a ton of homers is ridiculous. He's a Richie Sexson of sorts. Does anyone even remember that guy?...That's exactly my point. Small ball is what made the 03 team, Uggla is the anti-small ball.

In my opinion, our team line up for opening day was impeccable. Anything and everything happend at that game; grandslam, tie run, bases constantly loaded, homeruns, plenty of Marlins fans and the crowd craving for more. Dan Uggla is a valuable team member to the Marlins, not just as a baseball player, but as a person as well. As a player on a team... See More, you'd notice that Dan is more of a power hitter. Off the diamond he's an inspiration to childrean who love the ballgame in foster homes and or ill in the hopsital. In retrospect, I can remember all the amazing plays made by Dan Uggla along with many of the other players such as J.Cantu, C.Ross, H.Ramirez, E. Bonifacio, C. Coghlan, B. Carroll. Beautiful moments tied in with bunts by N.Johnson, C. Maybin. There's so much more I would love to say, but i'd be here forever. (And every once in a while you'll catch me at a game.) Catching my breath here, I can remember the game against the cubs (really hot day for the fish tank) Dan Uggla tied the score against the Cubs 2-2 with a homerun and Cody Ross knocked one out of the park (Back to back homers) Seriously, Dan is the man, that's all there is to it.
