basement 414: B414 Manifesto

B414 Manifesto
The existing culture and community is not adequate.
The city is littered with advertisements, and portioned into private spaces. Our once lively home is now a sea of gentrification and monolithic monuments to the rule of capital. This is not only aesthetically displeasing, but intellectually stagnating. What few artistic or ideological movements are left are weak, marginalized, and factionalized.
We must create and beautify public spaces.
We must construct situations which inspire thought.

Systems which bureaucratize art are unacceptable.
The gallery system is awash with policy and formality which induces at the very least a de facto censorship of the non-commercial and radical works created in the great minds of our community. A commodity mode of creation is not reconcilable with what should be understood as important works.
We must find our own system.
We must reject the commoditization of our lives, loves, and labors.

Fear not... the Capital Area Spectacle is here to incite events.
The organization will provide forum to thinkers, creators, inspiration for those yet to be stirred, and foundation for idealogical awakenings.
